In fact, the entire film is highly over-rated. If you actually followed the events when they happened, then I'll go so far as to say it's decent. Not great, by any means.
so why are people saying that Jordan is such a great up-and-coming actor then? Or is he just going to follow in the footsteps of Rob Brown, Omar Epps and Sean Patrick Thomas - young up-and-coming African American actors that never became big stars?

One person says he wasn't that good, nor was the film, despite the overwhelming praise both have received thus far and you go with it. Why don't you actually watch the movie, instead of stringing this along? Decide for yourself if you think he's good.

I'm not saying there are bad actors. I think it all depends on the script and the director. I'm sure that Michael Jordan is a great actor but I just don't like the casting of him as Johnny Storm, because his casting for that role goes against the norm as established in the comic series. Johnny Storm isn't some secondary class character in the comics like Nick Fury is. There's a reason why you don't mess too much with certain elements of these characters.

AND, I seem to recall Michael B. Jordan pushing for the role of Spiderman a few years back ... I just doubt that he's such a critically acclaim actor since he's the one who's been mostly shoveling that line of bull out there in the first place. Now, he's got Josh Trank pushing all that press out there hoping fans of the comic series, the bulk of who go to see these films, hoping they'll accept him but it's just not going to be that easy.

The casting choices are simply wrong. AND, since when do directors choose the actors? Last I heard, that was the casting director's job and it has to ultimately be approved by the studio. I think if enough outrage over Johnny Storm being black and Sue Storm being white happens to overtake the movie itself, that 20th Century Fox could find itself recasting one actor or the other. Either way, it's going to end up being a bigger headache for Fox Studios than they care to admit.

They really created a potential problem here by having the Storm siblings to be two different races. They can't exactly explain it away as saying they are adopted siblings because that could give Marvel reason enough to yank the rights from Fox. If the film fails to perform, that also could strengthen their case to revoking their rights as well, added to the casting decision for Johnny Storm.

If comic book readers were the bulk of who went to see these films then they would never make a profit.

If that be so important, create new characters to play alongside existing archetypes so to drive the point home.

Forcing the agenda just sends the wrong message and turns people off.
Most movies that generate large revenue based on comics (Avengers & Iron Man come to mind) is because the very "small audience" is actually the geeks & nerds just like you and I, not the other way around. The studio is "NOT" pushing any agenda whatsoever they decided to go in a different direction with this version of the FF. Besides what political agenda would FOX be pushing, it's silly to think that. The studio is in the business of generating revenue via entertainment nothing more.

Personally all I care about is if the story is well written and you have good enough actors. In this particular case we all know the origins of the FF so this version needs to explain the relationships, either it works or it doesn't.

There is no policy that states these movies cannot deviate from the source material. I "LIKED" the former cast in both movies and don't understand why they were not brought back, but it is what it is.

So Sofia Vergara is cast as Dr Doom? Is that the last of the casting?

Oooookay, I can see her as a villain - she was pretty evil in Machete Kills. I guess that's more interesting than Julian McMahon.

Michael B. Jordan Responds to Criticism of Black Actor Playing Johnny Storm in "Fantastic Four" Reboot

Quote:
The casting of black actor Michael B Jordan (Chronicle) as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in the upcoming "Fantastic Four" reboot seems a bit surprising, since the character has always been white and Kate Mara has been cast as his sister, Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman. Mara is white.

Fans of the "Fantastic Four" comic books are confused why director Josh Trank (Chronicle) felt the need to cast a black actor to play a white character. Some don't seem to mind, while others seem to be very upset about the casting.

TMZ now caught up with Jordan to find out whether he's bothered by the criticism. His answer was simple... "Nah, they're still going to go see it anyway!"

TMZ's expert journalism there, I'd take that with a grain of salt.

That said, if that's his real response (which I doubt), I would of expected an interesting analysis of the character relating to race and how he considered the reaction to be overblown based on his skin colour.

Personally, I can only say, his performance and handling/understanding of the character is more important than his race, let's see how it turns out before the words of miscasting are thrown around.

Her "armor" is more, ah, interesting.

No need to take TMZ's report with a grain of salt. They're pretty much always on them money. Anyway, this was video, so he did say it, but you know what, if I was met with such vitriol and hostility by fanboys across the web, I'd probably have a similar response.

Before you guys call him a douchebag for brushing off your anger, re-read many of your responses.

From Modern Family? I don't even--

I would have so much more faith in Marvel doing their take on Ultimate Fantastic Four than I do in Fox doing theirs.

You are going to completely give this movie the blind eye based on his response to people trashing the movie because they cast a black actor as Johnny Storm? Tell me that doesn't sound ignorant.

I have no problem with changing the race of a character as long as it doesn't interfere with the origins of the character, like you can't have a white Black Panther, or TMNT's reboot with The Shredder who's origins are Japanese, yet they cast him as white and still claim to be close to the original origins. That's the one people should be complaining about, instead they are saying how bad ass he looks. Nothing about ANY of the Fantastic Four characters says that they need to be white. Of the cast announced, Michael B Jordan is the ONLY one who I think fits in his role. I have my doubts on the movie, but not because they cast a black actor as The Human Torch.

he comes off like a douche saying that.

instead he could've explained what he's going to do w/the character or why he's the best choice.....not say something as idiotic as "people are going to pay to see it no matter what."

the last 2 FF movies did pretty badly......what makes him think people are going to flock to see this one?? esp. when he comes off as being such an ass.
