I agree, from a strictly acting and no politics perspective, Riva gave the best performance by a country mile. I can't imagine somebody seeing Amour and not voting for her. She is astonishing.

Without a doubt, Zero Dark Thirty should win any and all editing awards.

Chastain was amazing, even though I wished her role was a little more meaty. She was obsessed with the case but it could have used more.

She reminded me a lot of Gyllenhaal in Zodiac. Which is a role that you really saw the obsession.

With that said, I really hope Lincoln doesn't win best picture, it's definitely my least favorite of the 6 nominated films that I've seen.
Lincoln deserves Best Picture Oscar. It was throught provoking , a turning point in our history and we got a glimpse into the soul of our greatest President. We shouldn't just sit back and expect to be entertained all the time.

Meryl Streep (x3), Sally Field (x2), Kathy Bates, Emma Thompson, Jessica Lange, Frances McDormand, Helen Mirren...

The Academy is not "Hollywood".

I could probably get more about Lincoln from reading a text book. I go to the movies to be entertained.

I haven't seen it either but any movie with Daniel Day-Lewis, Tommy Lee Jones, and Joseph Gordon Levitt in it HAS to be incredible. Plus it was directed by that Spielberg guy

Some things you can't learn from a text book...seeing history live and breathe is a whole different experience. There is a long tradition of cinema used as a time machine. You either appreciate that in this instance, or your don't. Your mileage may vary.

Or you could just read the script of the film, why bother going to a cinema at all?

You haven't seen the movie!

But don't let that stop you from having an opinion about it!

I agree that Zero Dark Thirty should be the film to beat for Lead Actress and Film Editing, though on the latter Argo - edited by one of the same guys! - is a strong challenger.

Your name betrays you in this instance, but that is not to say you absolutely cannot find Lincoln to be an entertaining film...because it is. Well, at least I found it to be; this is not just some run-of-the-mill, page by page textbook look at Lincoln that many biopics translate themselves to be, but an inspired look into the American political process that doubles as prescient political commentary. Yeah, it's maybe not a masterpiece and there are some issues, but it's the best I've seen from Spielberg in a few years.

Remember that Jennifer Lawrence has Harvey Weinsten pushing hard for her. And Naomi Watts has a ton of big celebs stumping hard for her too.

If Argo doesn't win for Best Picture it will be a crime.
Seen all Best Picture Nominees...

It's a two picture race.. Lincoln vs Argo.

Argo should win.

Lincoln will win SAG for best ensemble

We saw 'The Impossible' yesterday. I'm now rooting for Naomi Watts to get the Best Actress statue! FABULOUS movie! I'm stunned that it's not getting more attention from audiences. It's totally flying under the radar.

'The Impossible' is now my 2nd favorite movie of 2012. 'Lincoln' is still my favorite, but only by a nose.

DO NOT MISS 'The Impossible'! Just because you think you know how it ends doesn't mean the road to get there can't be interesting and incredibly moving!

'Lincoln' WILL win Best Picture. I suspect most people that disagree probably haven't seen 'Lincoln'.

Mark

I think this list is decent but I'm disappointed to see Affleck, Tarantino and Bigelow missing from the Directing category and Leo missing from the Male Best Supporting Category. Also, why the hell is Silver Linings Playbook getting so much love? Is it that good? From the previews it looks really generic. Bradley Copper best actor, really!? It'll be really surprising to see if Lincoln gets snubbed like it pretty much did at the Globes. I hope at the least Argo takes best film editing as that was such a tense picture. Without the Directing nom. though I doubt it has a chance at winning Best Picture.

I was lucky enough to score tickets to the Foreign Language Films and Costume & Makeup Symposiums held the day before the big show at the Academy headquarters in Beverly Hills. Quite excited!

After seeing all the best picture contenders now, I fully support Silver Linings taking it away from Lincoln.

With all the noise Argo is making it is actually working in SLP's favor. If voters are guilted into voting Lincoln that steals votes from the frontrunner and favors the second place runner.

I am sticking with Jennifer Lawrence for actress, her role was definitely leaning to drama over comedy, I still think she is the one to beat.
