I remember seeing it when I was 19. It was a great film. The chanting before the orgy is still one of Kubricks best shot scenes and eerie as hell.

Exactly, they will present it in the correct ratio (1.78 isn’t different enough from 1.85 to tell a difference, so that’s “correct” enough. None of the ridiculous open matte 1.33 nonsense.)
An online search of its original and intended aspect ratio gives a lot of information, differences, and opinions.
Reddit to my surprise has an excellent discussion on the subject.

Alright, yet again looks like someone's gonna have to post that storyboard with the Overlook in the distance and the frame around the drawing clearly marked "1.85:1".

1.85:1 was the intended ratio for The Shining.

DAY 1! The press release posted in this thread lists the 146 minute running time twice. Once in the press release itself and then at the very bottom. Seems weird to make that mistake twice. Wish they included the shorter cut as well but I guess I can just keep the first Blu.

There were rumors of A Clockwork Orange this year, but Eyes Wide Shut would make sense considering its 20th anniversary. Only thing is WB might not think EWS will sell well in 4K. If Clockwork and EWS do get released, they might as well put out FMJ too and do a boxed set.

I've always been partial to the moving shot towards the inner office with the sunny window, or Danny biking around the labyrinthian corridors. But this is one of my favorite scenes:

Superman: The Movie 4K just last fall did not have a remastered BD... Hope that doesn't happen here.

I would ignore most of this, so much of what he says is either just incorrect or plain obvious (like DUH these films were obviously cropped for VHS). As a general rule, films intended to be matted for 1.85, 1.66, any type of "matted" widescreen were pretty much always shot 4:3, or 1.33/37:1 and then framed accordingly in post-production. And this wasn't just Kubrick, this was how films were shot then. There are exceptions of course with widescreen filmmaking (Techniscope, for example, is 2-perf as opposed to 4 and didn't require matting) but that's a whole other issue.

And then he goes on to argue that the 1.78:1 blu-rays present another alternate framing, which is ridiculous considering it's basically the same as 1.85, but opened up ever so slightly so that it perfectly fits the frame of a 16x9 TV.

I'm no expert myself but wow that reddit post is just so wrong on so many accounts.

Thanks for pointing out it was listed twice, only saw it once. Making the same mistake 2 times is too coincidental if you ask me. Pretty confident we're getting the hospital scene, despite Cannes listing 144 minutes & 146.

Confirmed by Warner in email.

The 4K remastering is of Kubrick’s original 146 minute version of the film which premiered in the United States on May 23rd, 1980.

Wow, if we are getting the hospital scene, what a shame we didn't get the 2001 deleted scenes on that 4K release, even if only as extras.
