I just did some comparing between the mono and new 5.1 and while the new 5.1 sounds great in it's own right, ultimately I much prefer the mono. Not only does the music sound much better IMO but I also think the wolf's howling and growling noises sound better too.
[Show spoiler]You can also really make out Jack's screams for help when he's being ripped open much more on the mono resulting in it being much more disturbing.

That's all I've compared so far though. I did notice the different gunshot sounds on the 5.1 as well.

Release of the year for me! Wow!

I appreciate this movie a lot more now, and def like it better than The Howling, which is good in it's own right.

Speaking of The Howling... Hopefully Arrow will tackle that at some point as well.

That's in dire need of a new transfer.

The Howling is MGM in the US, but might revert to StudioCanal (who outright owns the Embassy catalog including international rights) who Arrow doesn't deal with ATM. Ether SF will renew with Studiocanal and reissue it with a new 4k transfer, or KL (who StudioCanal also has a deal with) will do their stuff to it.

David Mackenzie did the encoding for this release (like most Arrow releases).

As far how the disc space was utilized, trust me, you've got nothing to worry about.

Don't forget that Indicator has now the deal with StudioCanal also.

I really wish David Mackenzie could encode all BD and UHD BDs across the globe.

In the UK you mean? Since when? If they do have a deal with StudioCanal, will they be able to get the more popular and larger titles, or get shafted with bottom of the barrel SC titles that would normally get licensed to Network.

I read about it from BarnDoor's post in HERE. Although, I hope that I didn't misunderstood anything? I mean, was that concerning only about one title deal or a whole lot more?

Just saw BarnDoor's post, sounds interesting but I imagine SC won't licence out many of their heavy hitters and it will be whatever's part of a package.

Yup. I keep dragging out this example but Shout put their Carrie remaster on a 2-disc set, one for movie and one for extras. Despite Arrow putting all of that (minus a few odds and ends extras-wise) onto a single 50GB disc David M still created a superior movie encode, one that was properly optimised and wasn't just a set and forget CBR-type encode. As a result the average bitrate is virtually identical (35 Mb/s) but it can leverage up to 14 Mb/s more bitrate for peaks (39 Mb/s vs 53 Mb/s) and it shows, the Arrow is just that bit tighter in motion.

People really need to stop stressing over this. David M is an encoding maestro.

Great! Now I’m really eager to hear the mono again. It’s been so long since I last experienced it, I’ve forgotten what it sounds like.

Somebody should do a comparison video between the three (mono & both 5.1) audio tracks

Both are classics, but I’ve always liked An American Werewolf in London more. The demonic quadruped is terrifying.

I think Indicator's deal with SC is for a package of titles, not just one. I suspect that Indicator will grab primarily smaller, more obscure titles since those are their specialty. I'm not realistically expecting them to be interested in films like The Howling or Superstition although they may grab the occasional big mainstream hit (if available) as a way to lure a broader selection of customers. That's what the did when they started, by picking up movies like Happy Birthday To Me and Ghosts of Mars. I wish they would release more movies like that.

Went over this release yesterday and it's probably the release of the year, for my money. Outstanding packaging and booklet and a beautiful new transfer, plus bountiful new and existing extras! And that mono soundtrack sounds SO GOOD! Arrow's Waterworld release was amazing as well and probably the runner up for me. I didn't end up keeping it because I just didn't see myself watching the movie anytime in the next 5-10 years, but it's a stellar release too. Arrow is killing it!

Sorry if this is a silly question but it's been years (I think) since I ordered from Deep Discount. Do they send shipping notices when an order goes out, or does it just arrive? I have this and Two Evil Eyes coming together and I'm just wondering whether I'll be given any sort of heads up when they are sent my way.
