Do we know if they used the original camera negative as the HD source? Also does the standard BluRay disc include the new transfer?

Would be interesting to find out in the end if the new German Blu-ray looses again with a lower video bitrate because of course they had to add an German ATMOS track ![]() But since we will probably never find out about that - which is a pretty annoying phenomenon in general - I ordered the US Standard Edition which is the cheapest option anyways. Thanks to the members contributing the tech specs of the discs! |

As for audio, Reservoir Dogs was mixed 4-channel LRCS native meaning the 2.0 mixes are matrixed Dolby Stereo/Surround.
However, the 5.1 mix was done not long after the theatrical release and first used on a AC3 Laserdisc and the original DVD release. This mix is really a discrete presentation of the 4ch LRCS (even the rear mono is duped to two rear channels and hardly any LFE). It was tweaked a bit for the 5.1 EX DVD (some lines/SFX went missing and others lowered in volume) and then with lines corrected for the 7.1 BD/HD-DVD mix. |

Now if there are actually pixels which are brighter than than 1000 nits, then the 0-4000 nits range will of course be needed. But for this movie the MaxCLL (i.e. the brightest pixel in the entire movie) is only 341* nits, so the range 1001-4000 will be unused anyway. Finally, with regards to standardizing HDR to 0-1000 nits, I'm not so sure that is a good idea since there are actually several 4K BDs which have MaxCLL above 1000 nits. Also, there should be headroom for the format to "grow". So that it is possible to select max 1000, 4000 or even 10000 nits is perfectly fine, as long as it's used properly by the content producers. * = Previously mentioned as 136 nits but that was for the streaming version apparently from what wright96d later wrote.
