Are they rear ported? I don’t think, that’s going to make a difference if they are not real ported, but it’s worth the test. We all have tested our own equipment and room placement, why not you.

Since we are on this subject, I was looking at your pics, have you thought about moving your front speakers forward from the wall some?

Mine are on a shelf, and sometimes I wish I had stands to put them on and move forward, but I found out, I am fine since I have the rear port plugged. The 2inches from the wall is fine.

I need to lower the shelf with my mine.
All of my speakers are front ported, except for my subs which are both rear ported. I actually did move my front speakers away from the wall since I took those pictures. In those pics they're about an inch from the wall. Now they are about six inches away.

I think I might try to run Audyssey again, since the thunder storms seem to have subsided. I'll check back in with the results in about 20 minutes.

Well, after my third time running Audyssey, the cut-off frequencies have been exactly the same all three times, the distances have been the same all three times, and the levels have been exactly the same all three times, except for a +/- 0.5 on a couple of the surrounds. I guess my little 'shelves' I built didn't really do much.

Honestly, I'm very happy with how it sounds, I was just hoping to squeeze a little more quality out of it. I'm all about free improvements.

If you want it better other than by moving the rears out of the closet..Acoustic treatment will properly be the next logical step.

Good job on audessey regardless.

Yeah, but I bought all of my speaker wire and HDMI cables from Monoprice. I've seen some "audiophile quality" speaker cables that cost more than my whole setup!

I said I'm all about free improvements.

Thanks Tommy.

My rears are pretty much flush with the back wall of the room, but yeah, if this was my house, I would tear out both back closets, which would make my room three feet deeper, then I would mount my rear surrounds on the back wall.

I really do need to start thinking more about room treatments. I would like to get some bass traps for the corners of the room. Something like this:

Only use foam if you really can't get room for "proper" insulation panels. Foam is great for highs/mids but not so for bass and it also have a bigger chance of damping the highs to much and you do not want that. You really want too keep some liveliness in the room.

But a few auralex foam pads here and there will be fine.

Well, they don't start off with those so called "audiophile quality" cables. They start off small and work their way up, and that's why I said you are scaring me... lol

I don't believe in "audiophile quality" cables. I do believe the thickness makes for a better cable.

Just making sure you got me completely when i said place the rears above the closet, i didn't mean the smaller darker rack but the construction around them:

I really need to read up on room treatments. I don't really know that much about it.

Thanks Hamp.

I bought the heaviest speaker wire(12awg) that Monoprice offers. I think it was about $25 for 100'. When I was a teenager, I spent about $45 on two Monster Cable speaker wires that were about 8~10'.

Yeah, that's what I thought you meant.

I seriously thought about mounting them up there when I was initially setting my room up, but the back of my couch is only two feet away from the back wall, and the speakers would be almost completely flush against the ceiling. It just didn't seem like the best location.

Surround speaker aren't ment to be pointing directly at your ears. Not for movies at least..multichannel music is different. Well you could try it just for kicks some day if you'd like. Who knows maybe you'll get better measurements from up there.

Well have a good time with Hellboy 2 buddy im off to bed.

Yes, I know that they are supposed to be above your ears, that's why I have them set to where the tweeters are about two feet above my ears.

I have seriously thought of mounting them there before. That picture is a bit misleading though, because of the way the black cloth is hanging. The edge is actually lower than it looks:

Have a good night Tommy, I'm off to Hellboyland.

I can send you mine to borrow if you want. Take however long you need

Let me know.

There is enough room on one side, but not on the other, plus they would be much different distances from the sidewalls and main seating area. If I placed them over the closets on the wall, the tops of the speakers would be flush against the ceiling, and that seems like a bad idea.
I think your Surrounds are fine where they are. My FOUR Surrounds (Sides/Rears) are all about 2-3'
[Show spoiler](30" exactly actually)
above Ear Level when I'm sitting on my 'Sweet Spot' (center of my couch).

Any higher would be unnecessary IMO
