I enjoyed both games. But then I'm also a fan of defense and low-scoring pitchers' duels in baseball. In games like that, every play is important and there's no margin for error. There's no thinking, "well, they scored, but we'll just march down the field and answer," and the loser didn't lose, but rather just ran out of time.

dont know about ppv game but they blackout games on espn 3 when the teams playing are on a espn channel and you are in there region ie WFvs FSU last sat. So i would have to guess and say yes it will be blacked out on espn 3. but i believe it depends on the region you are in.

Any idea if that region is determined by your Xbox settings or your ISP?

Scraping the Bottom of the Bucket:

Quote:
The Big East is divided over whether to pursue Air Force or BYU as its 14th football member, while another option the conference is considering is creating a 16-team football league by adding Army, Air Force and BYU, industry and league sources told ESPN.
http://espn.go.com/college-football/...er-sources-say

Nothing against any of the above mentioned teams, but if you are independant, the Big East wants you. I know they are doing this to get a team in the league quickly, but there are better teams out there that would be better assets. This is just a land grab before TV negotiations finish, and its despiration.

The new Sports Illustrated cover:

I don't think that it's hyperbole to label De'Anthony Thomas "The Fastest Man in Football," because I haven't seen anyone faster. The only thing that could be his Achilles' Heel is his durability IMO; I don't see a 180-lb RB making it in the NFL.

tj yeldon is way sicker @6'2 and almost 220 to run the same 4.4 Thomas has on his scouts page is insane. If only yeldon didn't have 4 other star backs around him and got to play easier teams like in the acc I can't even fathom what he'd do. I think he could be the best RB in bama history.

There's fast. And then there's football fast. De'Anthony Thomas runs fast in pads. There are a lot ot track guys that could beat him in a 100-m sprint, but none of them could put on a set of football pads and beat DAT in a 100-yard sprint with a football in their hands. JMHO.

Sounds like Devon Walker, the Tulane safety who suffered a near-fatal spinal injury against Tulsa a couple weeks ago is recovering better than expected. Still not sure what, if any permenant paralysis he has.

Quote:
The next phase of recovery began for injured Tulane football player Devon Walker on Tuesday. Walker was transported from Tulsa's St. Francis hospital to a spine injury and rehab facility. The following statement came from his parents, Booker and Inez Walker:

“We are pleased to have completed the transfer of Devon to a comprehensive in-patient rehabilitation center to continue his recovery. We want to express our appreciation and gratitude to Mr. Bill Warren and the wonderful doctors and staff of St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, who provided immediate care for our son. We’ll be forever grateful for their devotion to Devon’s well-being. “We will now focus on the next phase of Devon’s recovery and ask that all the prayers, well-wishes and support continue with him through his journey. We appreciate everyone’s understanding of our request for privacy as we focus on his recovery.”

Walker suffered a fractured spine when he collied with a teammate in the September 8th game at the University of Tulsa. Walker has remined on a ventilator since the accident.

That is so unfortunate! The fact that he is still on a ventilator is not a good sign AT ALL. Most likely it was a high cervical fracture, probably between C3 and C5. In other words, an injury and recovery very similar to that of Christopher Reeves. I've only worked with spinal injuries in the long term setting, and not in the early recovery and rehab phase, so I could be way off base. I certainly hope he gets off the vent and regains at least use of his arms, but it is not sounding good. The fact that he had to be resuscitated on the field is a strong indicator that this was likely a very serious spinal injury.

Damn from reading the story I was thinking it's good news. He had a collapsed lung too. Maybe that's why he's still on a ventilator. Oddly enough the kid is a molecular biology major and I believe he planned on pursuing a medical degree. Probably the worst thing I can imagine is being paralyzed neck down like Christopher Reeve. For me it would be far worse than death. Hopefully that isn't the case with this kid.

I don't believe he actually had a collapsed lung. They said he did initially, but the doctors later said that he didn't have a collapsed lung and he never lost consciousness.

I think Sammy Watkins could hold his own, especially in pads. He was clocked at a 4.2 this off season. I know there is no way that's true but it had to be close because more than one clocked him. I don't think he loses much in pads.

The details of Arkansas coach John L. Smith's bankruptcy have been made public and its shows Smith has $25.7 million in liabilities against only $1.2 million in assets, most of which is tied up in retirement funds. He is filing for chapter 7 bankruptcy and retirement funds are usually protected. Some details from the link:

Quote:
In the court filing, he listed just $300 in cash on hand and $500 in his checking account.

Smith estimates the only real property he owns as worth $2,000 from a "1/4 interest in deceased parents real estate -- 8 acres in Iona, Idaho worth $8,000.00 (total)."

The biggest claim against him is $20 million from Terra Springs LLC, in Louisville. Republic Bank and King Southern Bank in Louisville claim $2 million and $902,000 respectively. American Express is claiming $10,810.

Smith lists $9,278 in monthly net income but $27,620 in monthly expenses, including a$11,666 note to Mushtaque Juneja, a doctor in Louisville, and $5,000 to four different law firms.

Among other assets he lists: $5,000 in home furnishings,$2,500 in memorabilia rings and watches, $900 in books and pictures, $950 in clothing and accessories and $200 in golf clubs and a shotgun.

Wow, the hits keep coming for Penn St.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/abc-int...26--ncaaf.html

Quote:
ABC to interview Sandusky abuse case's Victim 1

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- ABC will interview the young man whose 2009 allegations of sexual abuse led to the Penn State scandal and the criminal conviction of former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.

Attorney Michael Boni, who represents the teenager known in court papers as Victim 1, said Wednesday that ABC landed the first interview with his client, who has a book coming out this fall.

It's unclear when the ABC interview would air. ABC didn't immediately return a phone message left Wednesday seeking comment. The New York Post was first to report the ABC exclusive.

Sandusky was convicted in June of dozens of criminal counts of sexual abuse of 10 boys on and off campus. At age 68, he awaits sentencing, which likely will send him to prison for the rest of his life.

Victim 1 and his mother reported Sandusky to the boy's high school and the Clinton County child protective agency in November 2009. Their complaint triggered a state investigation that last year resulted in criminal charges against Sandusky and against two university officials accused of failing to report suspected child abuse and of lying to a grand jury.

According to a lawsuit that Victim 1 filed against Penn State, he met Sandusky about eight years ago, when he was 11 and was a first-year participant in a camp sponsored by Sandusky's charity, The Second Mile. In his second year, he drew Sandusky's attention and accepted invitations to spend nights at the coach's State College home and to attend professional sports events, the lawsuit said.

Sandusky was accused of fondling the boy and performing oral sex on him multiple times over a period of several years.

A collapsed lung typically does not require a ventilator at all. Best case scenario... some O2 and rest is all that is needed. Worst case scenario, you have to insert a chest tube to release the air around the lung that is preventing it from taking in air.

You'd be amazed at the amount injury a human can learn to live with. My mother in law had a severely debilitating stroke at the young age of 52. She can not talk, eat, walk, or use her hands well at all... but still she laughs frequently and vibrantly.

To compare football to life... even if you can't be active in the game itself anymore; it can still be quite satisfying to watch it from the sidelines.

Anyone else hear Lane Kiffin's presser the other day? It was easy to miss considering it lasted 29 seconds. Funny stuff. Reporter asks him about a player injury and he ended the presser.
