It is. The whole picture is far more solid. If you don’t mind artefacts, knock yourself out.

Wait a minute... you're not even doing 4K yet? C'mon on in, the water's fine. And just for good measure: "yes", 4K streaming is better than 1080p on disc
I couldn’t upgrade last year due to personal reasons. This year for sure.

Oh yeah, because 4K disc is going to die by 2018!

Are you on PayPal? Let’s have a wager. Disc or Digital HD (not subscription) to hang around longer.

I've been in enough ~2,000 square foot houses where people have way too much junk and then complain they don't have room for stuff. I'm very organized and I've never run out of space for my stuff and I haven't live in big places before.
Some us live in apartments. Technically yes I could by a large media shelf but I'm not sure my wife would approve.

What are "artefacts"??

Never been an issue for me. Maybe you need to check your set up.

I do, I still manage 700 discs and I’m a neat freak.

Seriously, you may have system issues if you are having enough artifacts that cause you to have issues enjoying a movie.

I have no issues at all.

"Artefact" is just a British spelling of the word "artifact."

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/artefact

I can empathize somewhat with the space issue; you should see how much room 7,000 of these things take! I am always looking for better shelving ideas.

I would like to see what streaming is technically capable of, but the internet utopia that many of you enjoy has not reached my little hamlet of 1,600 people. The big telecoms don't seem to care about those of us in tiny towns.

I would probably have an all-you-can-eat buffet style streaming service, or two, along with my physical library if stable, high quality internet ever gets here. I doubt I will ever buy digital content, but I can see some value in subscription streaming services.

I doubt you can really tell the difference between disc and digital. People like to assume they can but I think in reality from a normal viewing distance one couldn't tell the difference unless you knew beforehand and then your personal bias would cloud your judgement.

I've lived in apartments before. I've lived in a smaller house. And I would say each time I lived within my means and I had room for what I wanted. I'm not implying that you don't, I'm saying I have never had that problem.

Like I said before, I have also seen a lot of people with bigger houses, and they never have room. I live in the North, and it amazes me how people can have so much junk that they can't even park their cars in the garage when a major snow storm is coming. Often times the problem with storage is mindset not actual space. Similar to how two people can make the same amount of money. Where one person always has ample money in the bank and the other person is always living paycheck to paycheck. It's all about how you keep things organized....

I tend to prefer physical over streaming in most cases. In my opinion...

Blu-ray > 1080 streaming
4K streaming > Blu-ray
4K Blu-ray > 4K streaming

Quality wise, I'd agree with that. I just don't think the difference between 4K BDs and 4K streaming is great enough for me to care but to each their own.

I'll co-sign this. I have no issues whatsoever with UHD streaming. (or any for that matter)

I keep saying it's all Digital, just the form of distribution will change. Discs will keep getting more expensive, and people want the best price for their Movie watching and Collecting. Digital HD is the normal progression, and I say Personal Movie Collections will go on Servers. Those Servers can be located anywhere for the best Streaming Access.

As someone who buys discs, a lot of them and often, I have not noticed them getting any more expensive. New release blu-rays are typically $20 or less while new 4K discs are about $25. After they have been out awhile, they can drop far lower during sales events.

People want the best price for anything they buy, but many people are willing to pay more for quality wherever they perceive that to be.

Movie ownership on physical media is declining, with the only growth being with 4K discs. "...4K Ultra HD titles in the market (experienced) a growth rate of 187% over the prior year." Growth of digital ownership is modest. "...the electronic purchase of movies and other filmed content, up nearly 6%." The greatest growth, in digital, lies with subscription services. "...consumer spending on streaming jumping more than 31%." It would appear that many people just want access and do not care about owning movies and TV shows.

My crystal ball says all three of these: discs, digital copies, and streaming will co-exist for quite a long time allowing all of us our preferred option. I would not bet on any of them disappearing even in my lifetime.

WB prices are absurd and never seem to drop.(at least 4k) Seems like most titles I'm interested come from them as well.

WB is pricey, but they drop eventually. They certainly make you wait for it to happen.
