I say Wiki it is for you.

I'm not sure what kind of "significance" you're looking for, but can't they just be "good" films? For instance "Mystery Train"... I'm just a fan of Jim Jarmusch's films, for the most part, so that makes it significant for me.

The Leopard:In Sicily during the 1800s, as the aristocracy found itself being suffocated by a newly democratic fervor, Prince Don Fabrizio Salina tries to hold on to the past, but it appears that his glory days are waning. This is perfectly exemplified by his nephew Tancredi Falconeri and his gorgeous wife-to-be Angelica. As the revolt gathers steam and begins to affect a real change, the aging prince must come to terms with the new world that surrounds him.Winner of the Palme d'Or 1963

Mystery Train:Aloof teenage Japanese tourists, a frazzled Italian widow, and a disgruntled British immigrant all converge in Memphis, the city of dreams. Mystery Train is a triptych of stories that pay playful tribute to the home of Stax Records, Sun Studio, Graceland, Carl Perkins, and, of course, the King himself, who presides over the film like a spirit.

Red Desert:Giuliana is a woman who, on the verge of a nervous breakdown, struggles to discover meaning, peace and serenity within the desolate and industrialized town where she lives. Plagued by mental anguish as the result of a past automobile accident, Giuliana first seeks comfort by having an affair with one of her husband's close friends. Ultimately left dissatisfied by the affair, Giuliana returns to her wandering, forever seeking solace from her angst. Additionally burdened by the illness of her only child, Giuliana recedes further and further into neurotic isolation as the surrounding urban environment threatens to consume her.Antonioni's first color film

I wouldn't really call the cover art for any of the newly announced released anything particularly special.

My wife works for them too. She works from home though, HRC.

I'm bothered by the fact that in June they will be releasing Carol Reed's 1940 Last Train to Munich on DVD, but not on Blu-ray. Come on, Criterion, there are fans of classic movies who have Blu-ray and want them on high def!

Why would someone think they would announce it so soon? They got alot of good stuff to get to before they bring that out. Give it time.

There are far better films that they have released dvd-only, but I still buy them on dvd. I actually thought this was going to be dvd only anyway, and I was right. Buy the dvd if you want it so much. That is what I do.

Looking on the bright side of things maybe Criterion NOT bringing out those three extra films in June will allow those of us who collect all Criterion Blu-Rays to save $70+ for that month.

I think this is another good month by them, blus and dvds. Sorry to the people who think otherwise. March-June has alot of films I have been wanting (Dillinger is Dead, Bigger Than Life, Vivre sa vie, The Fugitive Kind, Oshima Eclipse, Stagecoach, Brakhage set, and Red Desert. Also Night Train to Munich and Mystery Train are going into my collection as well.)

Not terribly surprised that Close-Up and Night Train to Munich are DVD-only releases, but I am somewhat surprised that Everlasting Moments is DVD only.

Night Train's cover is beautiful. It's a shame it's only on DVD.

JediFonger, well I can tell you Michelangelo Antonioni was one of the best Italian directors of his time so Red Desert should be a good blind buy for you.

Which did you not think were "good" films? Or did I miss the sarcasm, and you think that all are great?

I wasn't including my personal opinion by putting the word good in quotes. I was merely indicating that the idea of what's "good" and what's not is subjective and a matter of opinion.

Well Antonioni has 2 more in the Criterion Collection and another one of his films "La Notte" (which I don't know why that isn't in the collection, it's part of a trilogy with the other 2) was one of Stanley Kubrick's top 10 films. He also made English language films like the great "Blowup".

Oh also "The Passenger" with Jack Nicholson. You may of heard of him.

Also Nicholas Ray (Bigger than Life) has alot of great films and my fav blu-ray for this month. One of the greatest American Film Directors of all time.
