Yeah, the Blu-ray suffers as an early low bit encode which has its own issues.

I also won't be watching this for a long time to come, if ever again.

This film has not aged well for me and on top of that, I didn't exactly liked how it looked in some parts.

I will likely watch tomorrow. I barely remember the movie. Although my Shutter Island and Prestige import came in today...

Is this coming in 3D. ...Peter is a nice guy, I'm sure he'd smile hearing it.

Oh damn, I’d go with Shutter Island... curious to know how that turned out, as the potential is very high.

The scenes back in Manhattan during the film's last third, however, were thrillingly beautiful, to my eyes at least. The segment with King Kong atop the Empire State Building, with the sun rising over the East River, was as good as any HDR I have seen anywhere. Bottom line, it was a mixed bag, ranging from the horrible to the sublime.
I think the soft focus of Naomi was an artistic choice. I don't think the film was supposed to look sharp like a modern film.. I believe it's supposed to have this soft appearance to really replicate something from that period.

Soft is fine. Smoothing out the top of her forehead so it looks like an egg is not.

What issues it has? I think it more consistent than the 4k and with that low bitrate it still looks very good

Isn't a good deal of the smoothing to mask the wig line?

And perhaps forehead lines.

Don’t wait. It’s on sale on Amazon.uk for 2 for €30. I picked up that and the Prestige. Both cost me $60 CDN which would cost the same if I bought them locally. The sale ends in February.

I was going to watch it but the wife wants to so I’m waiting till Saturday.

There is nothing exciting about Shutter Island UHD. Its another slightly refined presentation of the Blu-ray (note: I am not one of those self appointed reviewers who think their reviews are the most genuine).

Any improvement on the Blu-ray of a Scorsese picture is exciting to me. I can't speak for your priorities.

Thanks for the input. For me, it was the best-looking movie of its year and one of the most beautifully shot movies of the 2010s, so even a marginal increase over the BD is enough to warrant a purchase.

Unfortunately I'm just not seeing anything in that Amazon UK sale that I wanna bundle with it lol

Yeah the only other title that stood out was Prestige.

It's not a bad BD, but there are compression artifacts and video noise in it. I would agree, the overall look of the disc is more consistent and in reality probably more in line with how it was projected in 2005.

Her neck gets it just as bad, pretty sure it's to make her look younger. They do the same stuff all the time now, but thanks to advances in the tech it's not as obvious. On King Kong it is (and has nothing to do with the UHD, it's in the DI).

The top of her head is definitely done to smooth over the joins on the wig though. It's also there on the BD for sure, but the enhanced detail of the UHD shows it up chronically bad. That's not to say that there hasn't been additional tinkering in the rest of movie for the UHD because there has been, but the futzing they did to Watts was pretty much all there in the DI.

As much as I like Watts in this movie (I honestly thought she deserved Oscar consideration), if Jackson really wanted someone to look like an early 1930s Hollywood ingenue... just cast an actress that looks like one. There must've been countless young blondes with the chops to pull that part off, and don't tell me Watts had to be cast for her box office appeal.
