Comparisons may look "marginal" in caps but it really adds up when watching. Shout's disc doesn't make me scream but we know which is going to be icing-on-top and Le Chef's Kissu!

I was bummed Arrow didn’t do new art for their 4K release. Don’t think their old bluray art was anything super amazing.

Au contraire, baby. I think Arrow's art for Carrie is one of their better ones. Having said that, I probably would've picked up an Original Art edition had they provided one.

That was the most shocking part of the massacre for me when i first watched it.

I may have a different film in mind, but I swear when I was younger, there was a part during the prom massacre where a large lightning bolt-shaped decoration falls from the ceiling and impales someone lying on the floor through their stomach. Maybe I dreamt it.

It's never been in any versions of the film I've seen!

Agree 100%. Really captures the rage and fury. If it was a normal keep case release I might even leave the new art facing out, which I've only done once (12 Monkeys).

Every single time I watch Carrie, I'm heartbroken when they drop the blood on her. Every time I want so badly for the night to go in her favor. The bliss she feels, being accepted, is so bittersweet and her rage so understandable. Brilliant film. Every. Single. Time.

But the night DID go in her favor. Forget flowers and harp music and frolicking cherubs and the golden charms of coming-of-age bliss. There’s just one overriding message to the entire film, from beginning to end. It’s dominant right from the start. The minute the principal’s ash tray takes a header, you know what that message is. Carrie is the Rambo of femme fatales and this is the First Blood of prom night flicks. They’ve all fukked with the wrong marine.

Has it ever been stated by De Palma if everyone at the prom was really laughing at Carrie or if it was all in her head from the situation being so traumatic? I'm sure P.J. Soles was actually laughing but when Chris and Billy get out from under the stage and you hear them giggle it's dead quiet other than them. I've always had a hard time buying that coach Rita was really laughing after she looked so heartbroken for Carrie initially right after the blood spilled on her. I haven't read the book.

Pretty sure nobody was laughing apart from Norma, hence that kind of kaleidoscopic effect from Carrie's POV. They laugh in the novel, though. IIRC it's nervous laughter which spreads like wildfire, but I prefer how it's done in the film.

I know! I love her vengeance and rage! It's cathartic! But I also want the best for her! I want to give her a hug and tell her it'll be okay! This movie always plays with my emotions like few others!

It’s my favorite ABC Afterschool Special Gone Wrong. De Palma gleefully gives us several stiff gut-punches with his velvety fist, every time he lets us start to get cozy with the idea that Carrie might catch a sympathetic break. He’s a cruel mistress. It’s also hilarious to me on reflection just how many of his characters have a screw loose and are busy slapping and whacking the piss out of each other throughout the film. De Palma must’ve been in an angry place at that point in his life.
