They didn't pull them exactly. They just locked them out of the child profiles on accounts. Still, I find it silly.

The full list was:

Dumbo, Peter Pan, Swiss Family Robinson, The Aristocats, Fantasia, The Jungle Book, and Lady and the Tramp. I am willing to bet Disney won't reissue these after their current runs are over within the next few years.

maybe fear after the Seuss and Pepe stuff plus it doesn't appear to have had a new printing to refresh copies in a while, I nabbed it a few days ago with still low prices on ebay (really couldn't find many copies anywhere, official stores seemed out of stock)

Hmmm. I find that really weird. I don’t have Disney+ at the moment so I thought I’d ask. I got the Signature Collection BD a while back anyways for $12 so I was surprised to see the prices go up like that so suddenly.

That's ok, I'm sure we will see them on ebay soon with a greatly inflated price.

Yep, FOMO is a disease that infects many.

We are seeing it bigtime with the recent Criterion OOP's, especially Harold and Maude... a movie many did not care about until now. Even though it was out for over 9 years, and was available for approximately 18 Criterion 50% sales, and 18 B&N 50% off sales, and many, many B2G1F Target sales, people are JUST NOW deciding that they really really really want the Blu-ray.

People are funny.....

There are certainly a number of people who didn't care about the movie until it went out of print. But there are certainly a lot of other people who have wanted it all along, but didn't buy it for one of several possible reasons, like there being too many other things out there they wanted more, or they already had it on DVD, so it wasn't a high priority. There's also the fact that Criterion titles going OOP isn't all that common, so people don't feel the pressure to get them right away as they do with many other boutique labels. They just don't expect them to suddenly vanish one day.

As a fan of New Hollywood movies, I had Harold and Maude, Nashville, Days of Heaven, Rosemary's Baby and Don't Look Now (guess that one's more British New Wave) already.

I understand this. I am the same way. There are many Blu-rays I want that I have not bought yet that conceivably could go OOP soon. However, this does not explain why someone would pay up to 5 times as much for it than they could have gotten just less than a month ago.

My point it they are not paying that much just so they can watch the movie... they mainly just want something difficult to obtain. I'm not judging, but rather find it very interesting and thought provoking.

The explanation for why someone would pay up to 5 times as much for something they could have gotten for less a month ago is that it's a personality trait. Some people simply get a thrill out of owning something that other people can't have.

Once something is about to go OOP (or suddenly goes OOP) they quickly jump on it and often come onto these forums to boast that they have this newly elusive treasure in their collections (I mean, what good is having it unless everyone else knows you have it and they can't)!

If people waited for so long to buy a title that was in print why would they jump on it as soon as it goes oop, especially a popular title will eventually go back in print If they wait a couple of years. Its because they want something thats rare. Collectors will pay 10x for a bluray if it has a rare slipcover or a plastic toy if it has a rare color variant. Its part of the collector mentality, I paid lots of money for 1st print books that I could've got for a lot less in a reprint paperback just to have it in my collection.

Personally, I don’t think these will stop being pressed. I think the main idea is to make sure a kid doesn’t stumble upon them with out their parents knowledge, hence them removing them only from kids profiles. similar to 30 Rock, Community, and the office, all of which still have unaltered physical releases. But I guess we all shall see in time.

I disagree. I think by far and away most are doing it just so they can see it.

Not necessarily true at all. Plenty of titles have never come back into print.
Some jump since they are afraid prices might get even worse or it might end up barely ever for sale. You never quite know. Often prices may eventually get a bit lower and things might not be too terribly hard to find. But some titles just boom totally dry up and prices go even higher and the title ends up like one copy showing up every few years.

Fantasia (and sequels in a package together) is already coming back into print, although it seems maybe only as a pain in the neck to get DMC version.

The others, who knows, probably. One thing is sometimes when there is a scare maybe an older edition with more extras ends up quickly selling out and can end up being hard to find again or only at much higher prices than if you leap the second the OOP worry first starts so even if a new version comes into print or the current new version, perhaps an older one was better.
