Its questionable though on other shots shown, but it does appear to be the case sadly from those screenshots.

I'm still convinced some people here don't own any Blu-rays, much less 4Ks because they nitpick every tiny thing to death and sit around watching VHS and LaserDiscs because, as we all know, those have the "true" color timing and black levels. No NR and edge enhancement of course, never.

As far as I understand correctly, the DNR in TLW refers to opticals. With JP, Universal has not improved these or the effect shots.

What Universal has done here makes no sense at all, because most of the problems like the DNR in opticals and effects shots as well as the wrong color grading have still not been corrected.

So now you have a production that already spent millions creating sets for a script that was no longer being used and a script that didn't exist that also had to work in some of the larger production pieces as Universal refused to start over or push the release date.

I don't recall the exact details, but the ending was supposed to include the Spinosaurus (that just disappeared after the crane scene), the raptors and the military in a big finale, but they just ran out of time and the movie ended on the beach with the military showing up. Which is also why it's the shortest movie in the series.
Very interesting, thank you very much. Do you know some details about the unused script? Was it good?

Universal should have insisted on using the existing script. It's never a good idea to make a film without a finished script.

So it seems many are saying JP looks improved. What’s the verdict on TLW & JPIII? Improvements or more of the same?

More of the same, slightly improved. Unfortunately, the major problems remain. Even with the existing scans, a significantly better result could have been achieved. For example, Universal should have removed the complete DNR from all scenes. Instead, there is a little more DNR in the opticals from TLW.

I'd prefer original color timing/audio/no DNR/all that other good stuff but Blu-ray and 4K are by far the greatest home video formats to ever exist and I love them. I don't care if True Lies (for example) has some "issues." We have it on blu-ray and 4K now and that's how I'm watching it from now on.

If this 4K of Jurassic Park had been shown to people in 1994 not a single person would have said a word about color timing or DNR. They'd have ditched their VHS and Laserdiscs and never looked back..

None of them feel like they look as good as they could. I was expecting the quality to be better the further into the trilogy I got, since they are newer films, similar to how much better Batman Returns looks on 4k than Batman ‘89. No such luck.

The second film was not terribly impressive, but the third film looks the worst of the bunch. Cold and flat, like it has all of the color depth of a DVD. I’m going to guess that being a 2001 film, the color grading was done digitally with 2001 technology and never really revisited.

They all sound good though.

The 2nd and 3rd movie from the JW set already has Atmos and Dolby Vision from the previous 4K set. Maybe they felt no reason to add those since it was already released before.

I've watched the disc of the Lost World and I see no use of DNR or at the least very sparingly. The movie looks incredibly filmic with detail intact. A great disc maybe marred a little but by black crush here and there but nothing egregious.

we must be watching different discs then cause the lost world looks great and the jurassic park 3 definitely has been improved from the first 4k disc but still could've been further improved. What's your set up if you don't mind me asking?

Ready for Geoff's take on all this back and forth.

It's better.... It is not noticeably any different than the old disc... It's worse...

What to believe??

I haven’t seen the previous 4k discs but if this III disc is improved then the previous one must have been truly terrible. The first two films are perfectly serviceable, but they aren’t anything to write home about the way many much older films can and do on 4k UHD.

I have an LG OLED, Panasonic UB820 and an atmos 5.1.2 setup.
