This is all I can think off in regards to that whole thing with Luke's hand.

Maybe it'll start attacking people at random with the lightsaber.

Maybe the hand is the film's villain.

The plot thickens.

He's not saying. In fact, he's saying it might not even be Luke's hand, but it's definitely Luke's lightsaber. At the same time, though, he's using lame equivalency to strongly suggest that it could be the mechanical hand (i.e., his usual way of covering his butt by saying something without actually saying it). Y'know, "The probe droid survived a trip through the atmosphere, so why not the hand?" sort of stuff.

He's also not even entertaining the idea he's being duped by all of this. But he's never been one to admit when he's wrong, of course.

Maybe it is George Lucas' hand and he will flip one last middle finger to the fans.

I read this and laughed my butt off. Wow, just Wow!

I don't know what's funnier, the "rumor" or how many people are buying it?

I mean really. Heck I wouldn't even see the movie if this was remotely true. And I'm a die hard fan.

I don't care that I'm too way old for one, or that my kid is too old for me to get one and let him think it's his, I'm buying a damn toy of that X-Wing. I've been waiting for one of those since I bought The Art of Star Wars back in 1981 and first saw McQuarrie's original concept.

Seeing the X-Wing just made me giddy. Cannot believe this is really happening. Didn't bother reading "Hand-Gate". I will just piggy back and say it's stupid and not real.

I guess it all depends on execution wether I buy it or not. It's very plausible for the hand to survive. They found the bodies of all astronauts when the Shuttle burned up during re-entry. So if the hand is severely charred, it will be good enough for me. Plus this is classic movie making 101. It's a funky plot device to get everything in motion. Kind of like R2D2 in the original.

My knee-jerk reaction is to think it's odd that the probe droid would need to be encased in a heat-shielded pod (which in some ways is analogous to the Shuttle) in order to survive, and that the freaking huge ship in ROTS would crack in half and turn into a Roman candle upon reentry, but the hand and lightsaber would come down either intact or in any form other than a silver puddle. It's like the old joke about black boxes on planes: If whatever the hand and 'saber are made of can withstand that, they should use that material to make everything.

Other rumors have Boyega injured and lost at the beginning of the movie, and if that's in fact true, it seems to me the crashing of his ship would be the logical opening, as it fits in with the way the other six have opened. If he and Ridley stumble upon a lost or discarded lightsaber shortly thereafter, and that kicks off the plot proper, doesn't sound so bad. Regardless, though, they already have my money.

Again I think the info is BS but still fun to play around with but there is no way in any form that a hand floating through space can be done and it not be stupid. Kurosawa, Hitchcock, Scorsese or Kubrick couldn't pull that off.

Wasn't there imagery like this in Mel Brooks' "Spaceballs"?

Back when TESB was released and Luke's hand was cut off, a friend of mine theorized that Luke would eventually lose more parts of his body and become like Vader - more machine than man. Obviously, that didn't happen.

Aside from how silly this is, it would make VII a direct sequel to TESB instead of ROTJ. That's not going to happen. And if it did happen, then the plot would most likely revolve around a (bad) clone of Luke made from the hand. And we've seen that before (in Star Trek) and it wasn't very interesting.

In addition, if Chewbacca and Han have been flying around for 30 years, that has to mean that Han and Leia did not wind up together and didn't have children or did wind up together but have separated.

Also, it doesn't make sense that they would need to get either the hand or the lightsaber back to Luke. He already had a replacement hand that he's been living with for 30+ years and he already built at least a few replacement lightsabers.

Dude, this would not be the hand from Cloud City. You can't be serious with this...

Yep. It sounds goofy as hell, and it just doesn't sound Star Wars. It's hard to imagine them wanting to go this far afield, much less Disney letting them.

It sounds more like something Jodorowsky would have used for Dune. Mick Jagger would've cut off some dude's hand, tossed it out an airlock, then smoked a joint while setting butterflies on fire.

Ohh...so Luke lost another hand and lightsaber? He's always losing things..he's got to get his act together. Even so, why would he need it back?

Maybe it's not Luke's hand. Maybe it was Vader's hand - it got quick frozen in space and survived.

You know that in "3001: The Final Odyssey", Arthur Clarke had astronaut Frank Poole who was killed by HAL in "2001...", be discovered 1000 years later after being "freeze-dried" in space all that time and revived.

And Clarke was considered a serious writer.

How about this scenario:

They find Luke and he's sound and well hiding like Yoda did. It turns out that indeed this is the hand from Cloud City (lol). It was transported by a military ship before it was attacked and destroyed. A new evil empire is brewing and they have used Luke's hand to clone an entire army of evil Luke Jedis. Yes?

He may not need it back, but it's a funky plot device to get everyone searching for Luke and set the plot in motion.

Star Wars is filled with stupid ideas but this is one of the standouts.

On the other hand, they could make this movie exponentially dumber than the previous six and it would still make more money than all of us combined will see in a hundred lifetimes.

The very fact Clarke was still milking Odyssey at that point called a for serious reevaluation of his worth.

Here's the problem with Vader's hand: First, it should have been vaporized when the Death Star went nova. Second, how did it manage to grab Luke's lightsaber before plummeting down the shaft? Luke tosses his 'saber away right after chopping off Vader's hand and then later retrieves it, as he has it clipped to his belt when he arrives back on Endor.

Hand Holding A Lightsaber would make a great action figure. Sideshow or Hot Toys could make a killing.

ROFL!!!

After seeing the Jodorowsky's Dune documentary I can totally see that happening.
