Look at those Disney+ 4k steelbook prices -- $76 (!?). That is insanely high and even the older steelbooks are still holding at $40-50 (a little more reasonable but yikes).
You’re spot on. Before buying lots of movies I used to just buy during BF sales a few movies every year. There used to be so many more options. I used to be a huge retro video game collector, but I stopped that around 2021 due to the insane price jumps. Like video games, I’m trying to build a collection that I can browse through sort of like being at a rental store. However, at some point, I’ll be out of the collecting phase once prices get too high. I’ll just enjoy what I have and save some money every year. I’ll be picky and only buy my must have movies.

I'm more curious why they're advertising them at all, if they're no longer carrying movies in stores and only farming out to a third party for online orders.

Still, while way too high for us too, these prices aren't all that unlike early DVD preorder pricing, which was 40% off at most places online and considered a much better value than buying in stores, even way back in the late 90's. Hollywood deems BD as another $5 premium and UHD should be higher yet, by their thinking. Supposedly, they polled collectors (in Hollywood) way back when to come up with those figures of what we thought it would be reasonable to pay.

Target offered me a $5 reward to create a wish list, but it seems complicated. I guess I will pass.

It's not complicated at all
You don’t even have to add anything to the wishlist

Not sure if anyone else asked you but did Target send you the movies back or keep them along with the money you paid for them?

My family and I were just discussing how over the last two or three years we realized we've migrated from going to Target on a near weekly basis to maybe three or four times a year - and spend a lot more at Aldi, Costco and Wal-mart. Despite not stocking movies, Target's clothing (and Homeware) selection has gone to crap and the prices don't stop rising.

You can dispute this with your credit card to get your money back. Or is this not a recent story?

Sometimes if something goes bad a Target online agent will help you out even if they're not supposed to.

I honestly never asked, and they never offered. Though, it was my understanding at the time that they won't return merchandise sent in after the return window closes, which is what they claimed I did, even though I had a CSR approve the return just prior and it was the CSR that had to send me the return label, as their automated system would only approve part of the damaged order for return, for whatever reason - I'd ordered all of the Harry Potter films on UHD, and their automated system only approved the return for all but two. So, I called to find out what the deal was, and the CSR said the return window had closed. I pointed out that the system was still allowing it for the rest of the order, shipped at the same time and that being a redcard member I was supposed to have a full extra-month for returns. He didn't know that, but verified that I was correct with his supervisor or someone while putting me on hold, and came back and approved the return.

No, this happened 2-4 years ago. Target's redcard was used for the transaction, so I figured disputing it with the card wouldn't do any good.

If I cancel an item from my B2G1 order, -and I've received one of the three items, -will that change how I've been billed for the remaining items.

nope, prices are locked in with the discount when you order. if you used any target rewards you will get the prorated amount added back to account for any returns/cancelations.

It's sad but I guess I'm glad I was able to build my collection when discs could be easily had for $5 - $10. I just have to get over the FOMO of not upgrading everything to 4K.

this is me with Death Becomes Her 4K, which is funny because its basically available everywhere else but Target. Zodiac (which I also have delayed) is at least backordered on a bunch of other sites.

Wow, the studios are somehow moving us BACK to when buying a movie cost $100 EXCEPT they've also already killed off video stores. Consumers finally lost the war, I guess.

Had to approve new delays for Death Becomes Her and Trick-r-Treat today too. Death Becomes Her is showing "preparing to ship" though, so it shouldn't be long on that one. Trick r Treat still registers as backordered. I'm guessing if they actually get more in, it won't be the limited edition.

The other week we had three target orders ship the same day, from the same location. Two were preorders from separate orders, another was a delayed backorder that finally came in. All 3 packages shipped on Weds or Thurs like usual. All three via UPS to USPS, through the same hubs. But the two preorders were seemingly held up three extra days, so that they didn't arrive until after release as usual, where the backordered shipment was processed normally.
