Looking at the pictures on the site it looks plagued with compression and DNR issues, especially the screencap of Sam Neil and the kids his face looks blocky, waxy but still has some grain around it

The third movie wasn't directed by Steven Spielberg, it was directed by Joe Johnston.

This is clearly a speed bump 4K double dip money grab. Half assed color grading, still no restoration, no effort case artwork, etc. Not sure why people so interested in this

Probably will get a real resto effort for some 9 film box set in a few years

Pretty much where I'm at. I love the first two films and don't even mind the third, but this looks like someone randomly turned a few dials and that was that. LOL! Seems a bit hard to justify a purchase on, what looks like, a side lateral.

Nice video by HD-Numérique. Probably the closest to a good YouTube video about a 4K disc.

Looks like I was right that if you have the other versions it's not worth double dipping.

Been watching Lost World in Dolby Atmos but roughly an hour in, the image quality was annoying me.

I threw in the previous DTS-X 4K and rewatched many scenes I had just viewed from the new Dolby Atmos disc and IMO the DTS-X is more potent and thr transfer is better.

So they slightly upgraded the first film image wise… but DNR’d Lost World… Universal wanted to make sure if you bought the new set, you would need to keep the previous.

What? Gah. That's kind of upsetting. I swear - trying to own physical copies of your favorite films is getting more and more difficult as time goes on.

Anyone bought the 2022 single reissues recently from Gruv? Any luck getting slipcovers?

I agree. It’s the bare minimum of an upgrade (in terms of the first film). I’d love for it to have been the ultimate restoration and remaster from original elements but this is what we got.

In 3 years it will be the 35th Anniversary, another opportunity for a repackage.

As a foaming fan of the first film I thought the upgrade was definitely worthwhile.

The warmer colour grade and improved grain and detail made it feel much closer to that life-changing theatrical screening from 1993.

I hope we’ll get a proper restoration one day, but this will cheerfully tide me over for a few years. Or it’s the best we’ll ever get, in which case I’m sufficiently content with this disc.

I guess it comes down to how much you love the film.

I certainly wouldn't buy a boxed set of films for the upgrade to JP. If they release it by its lonesome in the US, I'll consider it then.

As someone who used to do color correction for print using photoshop I know about over sharpening and co-workers who would just hit the autocolor correction button to get it out the way. That's what it looks like was done to JURASSIC PARK 4k disc one.

Having had the last 6 and now the new six only the 1st one would I buy again for improved transfer but only on a BLACK FRIDAY SALE or a AMAZON PRIME SALE. Not regular price.

Those criticisms certainly apply to the initial release, but this new one rolls back the DNR and artificial sharpening used previously, and the colours are much closer to the theatrical, however they got there.

One of the benefits of this release is that it isn’t a boxed set, but a single-width steelbook. I’m starved of space so I appreciate these things. I only care about the first two films but I can cope with owning a JPIII disc if it’s not costing me space.

The colors are exactly the same on the old UHD of JP. It's very apparent on the video that was posted from HD-Numérique.

Since I own both, this is not true.

Yes, a good portion are the same or close. But other sections, including the first 15 minutes, have made minor changes to the colors.

Not a complete departure, but also not exactly the same.
