If you/anyone else wants to import, the UK release is the Director's Cut (Springstreen soundtrack) and the German mediabook has both Director's/Theatrical Cuts (Springstreen/Seger soundtracks). They share the same dated (but not DNR'd) transfer and no English subs on either, unfortunately. Still recommended though.

Does anyone know who has the rights to North Dallas Forty? I think it was with Paramount? It's a shame it's never had a US blu release.

According to Bogdanovich, there weren't any rights disputes. He'd personally cleared all the music with Springsteen, but then when we was dealing with other issues, the studio made the changes without his input, knowledge, or approval. He ended up suing them over it.

Paper Moon has long been one of my top wants for blu-ray. I'd love to upgrade my Li'l Abner too.

I spent my Sunday building two new sets of shelves and rearranging movies. Here's a few DVDs that I saw the little Paramount logo at the top and would love to upgrade: Crazy People (1990), Gung Ho (1986), I.Q. (1994), Milk Money (1994..... Melanie Griffith), The Miracle of Morgan's Creek (1944, another top want), Serving Sara (2002), Snow Day (2000), The Stepford Wives (1975), Teacher's Pet (1958).

Re: MASK. I may be remembering this wrong, but I was around back then and a big Springsteen fan at the time, but I thought it was Bogdonavich and Springsteen definitely had a meeting of the minds and both wanted it to be with Springsteen's songs as the kid Rocky Dennis was a huge Springsteen fan in real life (there's a "Darkness On the Edge of Town" poster in Rocky's room in the film, too).

But it was Columbia Records, who had power over Springsteen's catalog then, that wanted too much money for licensing Springsteen. So the studio changed it to Seger music, probably against Bogdanovich's wishes, but that's the business! It was written about a lot at the time of release, and disappointing as even Springsteen wanted his music used in a film about this tragic story of a kid who absolutely loved his music.

Not sure if what I just said is how it all really played out, it's all memories now. I did see the film upon release with the Seger music, it still worked, but obviously not true to Rocky's story. Once the Springsteen songs and the "director's original version" was restored with the Springsteen music (not sure how THAT got worked out), I watched it and was glad to see it as intended, but I recall thinking the Seger music (which I didn't know, and I loved the older actual Springsteen tunes they used at the time) sort of worked better in the film. I must be crazy! I just need to rewatch it a few times and I'd probably flip back opposite and prefer the Springsteen-intended version.

In any case, it's a terrific film!!! Cher is fantastic, and Sam Elliott offering moustache rides, plus Eric Stoltz, of course. Never a dry eye in the house.

Shout Factory is listed as the studio so it might be getting a disc release from them if they have more than just the digital rights to it.

Paramount. We also need The Longest Yard too. I think it and Hustle are very safe bets for getting a release from Kino because of Burt.

Interesting. So that leaves Will Penny, The Brotherhood, and The Assassination Bureau. Curious which one you guys were not interested in out of the three.

Can't wait to see which one you guys ended up getting. All three are excellent, but if I had to pick I'm hoping it's The Brotherhood just because of Kirk Douglas. One of my favorite actors of all time and wants as many of his films on Blu-ray as possible. Still, Charleston Heston and Oliver Reed are all great.

Unfortunately, someone told us here that Paramount WILDLY overpaid for the temporary rights to the film for that DVD, to tie in to their comedy remake, back in the glory days of DVD. BMS now demands the same fee for that film, or any other. Nobody will ever pay that in the present withered home media market, of course, and it's not worth the legal work for a multi-billion-dollar company to deal with the hassle of negotiating a new deal, apparently, so the Palomar films are largely locked away forever, sadly.

There are probably some safe bets like B&N or Amazon having remaining stock, but I don't think anyone can tell you with certainty. Ebay sellers will probably note it, though I haven't looked at current prices.

Let's go! Been on holiday so I've spent some time today scouring people's purchases on this thread as I always miss stuff I didn't know existed.

I would like to add my praise to THE MAN BETWEEN. Absolute banger.

These are my picks. I have to use a re-shipper to the UK this time around only, so probably that's it for me this sale, keeping the customs at bay:

Two for a mate's 50th - already brought him back TGTHBTU last year:

EDIT: thanks to the kindness of a forum member who pointed out that I was inadvertently double-dipping with Naked Alibi. So out a noir, in Renoir.

I just stumbled upon this LA Times article from 1985 about the issue.

I own this standard edition of the German set because I assumed the mediabook would be in German only. It's still in print and quite cheap. The director's cut with Springsteen's music is also extended about 7 minutes.

Thank you for the information! You're right ... the standard edition of the German set is VERY cheap. My copy will be arriving at the end of the month. Deeply appreciated, jkoffman!

I'm really pleased with the reversible art for Ants. They only did it for that release, not Tarantulas or Terror Out of the Sky, and I appreciate it.

More OOP based on previously being in the "While Supplies Last" sale and now no longer appearing on the website:

It's Pat: The Movie (1994)
The Mercenary (1968) (BD) (DVD still available)

(I'm behind on the thread but it doesn't look like anyone has posted these yet)
