It has been a race to the bottom in almost all consumer entertainment markets. Idealism isn't going to change any of that.

I totally agree. I remember my Dad one day asking us to ration our toilet paper plys to 3 for each use. At that point I said, "Wtf, you live in the richest part of town, not the halfway house!"

And before anyone flips out without knowing the whole scenrio, it did indeed happen, and is as ridiculous as it sounds.

People repeat this as if it's a new thing. Consumers have always driven market prices downward. The only difference now is that competition among a greater number of delivery formats allows for more movement in response to that same pricing pressure that didn't really have room to move back when the options were physical media or nothing.

The consumer pressure is always there and, consequently, is utterly moot as far as driving market pricing.

I just think its a baseless complaint. There is no shortage of premium collectors items and e-commerce has grown by leaps and bounds over the last decade. You can find premium products from international retailers at your fingertips and have them delivered to the front door of your house. There has never been a better time to be a movie enthusiast, a gamer, or a music lover. Each year it gets even better. The options available to you to purchase for high-quality equipment or collector's editions is ever-expanding.

So when people complain about low-quality products I find their opinions moot.

The only thing we're "driving" is the studios' desire to abandon physical media. Streaming quality is nice, but not as great as a dedicated disc.

There's no way Disney will pass up releasing Aladdin in the same year as the live action film. Aladdin should be out within the next couple months or at least when the live action comes out on Blu-ray.

Seriously, when it comes all these re-releases I’m not up to paying full price again when I already have the previous BD versions. Just snagged a sealed 4K copy with slip from the Bay site for $19.98. Keep checking if you want a solid deal on all these Disney 4K’s.

Looks like the Bay site is my go to for everything UHD related.

Took the plunge and finally imported the 4K. Expect a UK release to be announced any second knowing my luck.

That's still misleading, to get those prices, means enrolling, and canceling after fulfilment, and then starting the cycle again.

Sure, but beats the heck out of paying $25-35ea on Ebay. Even if I threw 6 of the items in the trash, I'd end up paying the exact same. OTOH, there were 12 Exclusives from 2018 I wanted so it would have been simple to buy them all for $8 average

Or ordering a regular price New release which can often be pretty much the same price as everyone else (Best Buy, Amazon, Target, etc) and get a bunch of them for $10 (60% off). Little Mermaid 4K is 29.95 at DMC (or 4K and TLM 2 and 3 for $40) which pretty much exactly the same everywhere else

The studios are driving their own desire to abandon physical media. They don’t need us (nor anyone else) to tell them that bigger profit margin > smaller profit margin.

So is this considered a big improvement over the blu-ray? The Lion King apparently was so close to the old blu-ray as to be pretty pointless. From the caps, this seems to be substantially different from the blu-ray, in terms of color. But I worry about the DNR. Also, I have the 3D version too. So if this is another misstep from Disney I'll save the money.

I've learned long ago to ignore the reviews on this site, as with most sites.

It's more or less an improvement.
