$44.95.... Why are people always forgetting the shipping. $39.95 is a price that misses the free shipping cutoff by five whole pennies....

After VS raised their prices, I found, again and again, that I'd have two films for just under $50, requiring me to slap on a $3 case to get free shipping, which decreased my buying of films in months where no friends wanted titles. Long ago, when the prices were lower, I often found myself adding a third title that I wouldn't have bought yet or at all, to get free shipping, because the cutoff was rather far away. Then they raised the prices a couple of dollars, making me think twice, buy a little less, but nowhere near what happened when they went up to just shy of $25 each, with a free shipping cutoff of precisely $50.

When you get too close to the cutoff, it goes from "buy another movie"-motivating to a "think about Josh Gad for a couple of minutes, this will pass, and you won't have to roll over and wake your husband, who ticked you off but good earlier and really shouldn't be getting any"-level-turn-off.

$39.95.... That means the bundled price will be $30 for one film, with another for $20. $30 for one movie, and there's a leak in my garage, so that's not happening. $45 for two? That's a sweet $22.50 per film, right at the top of what I can justify paying, but I still try to get $20 per film.

But doesn't Roninflix have free shipping?
And no tax?
It will likely be list price at $34.99 and then go down to $27.99 like the other releases.

I don't know if I should admit this here.... I wait until Ronin has something for 21.99 or 19.99 unless it is just too good to pass up, which nothing ever is. Blackout, I believe, cost me 21.99, unless it was 22.99, I can't be sure. $28 for one film is just too much, in a world of crumbling old houses and medical issues and new cars and all that other crap.

A while back, Chris came on here and posted something about not being able to watch all the movies he has and having to cut back, nothing new, but it stuck in my mind. He didn't know it at the time but, the day before, someone had sat with me, eating a lovely salad at the good Greek place, complaining about how many movies he doesn't have time to watch and wondering what will happen if he gets hit by a truck. Later, weeks or even months, I faced up and did a calculation after someone asked me how long I'm going to live, holding a blu in my face and judging me. It wasn't pretty.

Add to that, when I bought from Bill directly, for his releases, it usually averaged out to something like $17 per release, including shipping, because we'd all team up and buy in bulk. After the cartel went away, the prices at David's store were around $20 per release, including shipping, if there was shipping, which was just at the edge of affordable. VS prices went up, spending in my home went down and we started adding more people to the bulk-sale orders. Shout prices went up and we are suddenly getting a title every once in a while from Hamilton. $28 at Ronin is just a no go.

Even more of a reason, on top of everything else, to wait for Walt's version. I forget about including the shipping charge for DF since RF has "free shipping" and I'm sure missing the free shipping cutoff was no accident.

Bundling to get a decent price bites.
I have to start bucket listing their titles so I have something to bundle.

effing Dead Pit ran me $50 because I already had the bundled title.
If this is their new model, then this one is definitely a bucket list.

It was interesting timing to say the least. Friday afternoon before the week DF goes on sale. Wouldn’t be surprised if they threw that up for people wondering if they should wait.

Some quirky stuff seems to be going on. It doesn't show up on SR's main page, but I can find it via a search. Here's a direct link:

If they had put it up for that reason, they wouldn't have taken it down.

Maybe Ronin took it down to be nice to Bill, as a gesture, asking Walt to do the same, to maintain a positive business partnership. Bill might have worried that it could decrease sales of Bill's titles, selling via Dark Force and even bundled with this new release, if people see that announcement. In reality, the overwhelming majority of the people who would shop at Dark Force are also people who already know about the Scorpion release and already decided to buy one, the other or both.

Little gestures like that, which have little to no effect in reality, often make people feel better and lead to better relationships. Keep that in mind, whoever may read this.

Or they were asked to take it down.

It’s the internet, already been posted in multiple FB groups and other social media. They got their message out.
