Maybe Ronin took it down to be nice to Bill, as a gesture, asking Walt to do the same, to maintain a positive business partnership. Bill might have worried that it could decrease sales of Bill's titles, selling via Dark Force and even bundled with this new release, if people see that announcement. In reality, the overwhelming majority of the people who would shop at Dark Force are also people who already know about the Scorpion release and already decided to buy one, the other or both.

Little gestures like that, which have little to no effect in reality, often make people feel better and lead to better relationships. Keep that in mind, whoever may read this.

Did I read somewhere that DF plans on selling THE GATES OF HELL with Psycho From Texas for $39.99? If so, that is an outrageous price. I'd be buying it mostly for PFT. A fair price for this double feature would be 24.99, with special cover maybe 29.99. If 39.99 is true, they're gonna be very sorry.

Only if you buy it individually.

It will be a lot cheaper in bundles with ATOR, Breeders, Dead Pit, etc.

I assume the strategy is to greatly reduce the amount of single item orders.

I don't want anything else from them. If Walt releases his anytime soon, DF will take a beating. Ruined, instead of always sticking up for DF with everything they do, how about you let them know the price is way too high as they seem to respect only you.

I think.39.99 is too high but I'm pretty sure dark force knows that. It's a way to still allow single item orders while simulatenously discouraging them and cross promoting other products. I plan to get the bundles anyway where it will be cheaper so doesn't bother me.

Walt's release is a different type of release. I plan to get both as I think most fans of the film would like to. Walt's is going to be pristine quality while the dark force is going to be more of a drive in / grindhouse experience.

What! They'll "allow" single item orders like they're doing US a favor? Either you used a poor choice of wording or they're just crazy greedy!

You know how much I love this company, and every cult label that does a decent job of releasing these movies we all love so much, but the strategy was not to reduce the amount of single item orders. That is achieved via standard bundling, charging $30 for the film plus $5 shipping by itself or $20 with no shipping when combined with more films.

This was a test, plain and simple, to see if they could get $40 instead of the $35 people were so willing to shell out for Dead Pit, when one of the two films on this release is more sought after than the single film on Dead Pit.

I can't fault David, as every business owner wants to push that envelope and see just how much profit can reasonably be achieved per release and, of course, no one wants to sacrifice profit after letting production costs run higher than they should have. He's doing his due diligence to make sure that he makes enough money back, after laying out too much to produce the thing, like Walt did with Opera.

However, not being able to fault David, or Walt for that matter, doesn't mean I can afford what he is asking, anymore than I could afford the Opera Limited Release, and it certainly doesn't mean I ever condone charging this much for a release. The $35 for Dead Pit was actually my absolute acceptable limit, for other people, not myself, on a limited edition release, for any company, no matter how great they are, and I didn't pay that much and never would have. $30 for a release, with a slipcover, is what it should cost, at most, for a single film, for me and the people I know. For a dual release, maybe $35, and that had better be a mother of a dual release.

He needs to test the waters and see what he can get away with, in terms of recouping investment and making profit. He really has gone over the line with $40 plus $5 shipping. All that said, he's a smart guy and he'll figure it all out. Just give him time. It's not up for sale yet.

Nope that's exactly the wording I meant to use. Meaning that dark force could choose to only offer the movie in a 3 pack like Arrows American Horror Project. But, by pricing the single high one could still order it without anything else, just at a worse value - thus encouraging the bundle purchase.

I think Mr. DeFalco forgets that although the color of GOH may be better, "grindhouse print" still means scratches and lines, making it inferior.

Anyone who buys the release JUST for GOH at 39.99 would have to be a fool. If they buy it for PST it's because he's got you by the balls!

Thanks Ruined. The Drive-In #6 released by Code Red and Dark Force is not competing with Scorpion's 4k release. As Ruined aptly stated if you want a pristine restored version than Walt's is definitely the choice for you. If you want to have the grindhouse/drive-in experience with original Gates of Hell main title than ours is the way to go. As for the price individually Ruined is correct again. We would prefer to sell in bundles which will offer much better bargain pricing. As previously stated we have a lot into this release. It's not just Gates of Hell. We had to do a lot of work on the color for Psycho From Texas and it's on the much more expensive BD50 not to mention the slip cover is new and improved and was expensive as well. Now honestly I have not seen the finished slip and won't see it until they arrive next week. I am assuming it is going to look insane. If for some reason it looks anything less than I would be prepared to drop the price for individual sale...but I highly doubt it. In fact, I will go on the record now and state that any fan of Gates of Hell will want this release just for the custom slipcover...it's looking that awesome.

I am a big fan of The Gates of Hell/City of the Living Dead. I have a cast signed, framed one sheet hanging on my wall and I could not be less interested in owning this disc.

SMH...
I’m listening to the livestream from a few hours ago and the Demon is accusing VS and Severin of “sending trolls online”...
It’s kind of sad really...

No, Mr. Olsen. Blu-ray isn't 1K it's basically 2K (1920 x 1080). 4K is 3840 x 2160.

EDIT: Wow, it's only a matter of time before Bill dies from a heart attack.

so df’s marketing approach is passive aggressive extortion. noted.

Only if you consider a box set with no individual releases available aggressive extortion.

But yeah its def a way to get people to seriously consider another title they might have definitely passed on otherwise, just like a box set. But it leaves open the ability to buy only a single if you reallllly want nothing else unlike a box set.

the bundles are designed to move product - and in most cases, the stuff that doesn't sell well alone. they are essentially discounting old releases people keep passing up while still charging full prices for new ones.

they are not doing us favors. anyone who has taken a basis econ class recognizes this. things are always cheaper when u buy in bulk. df didn't invent this.

It's a bit more than that in DFs case since they have a skeleton crew doing the shipping, so single item orders are likely even less profitable than usual compared to multi item orders when you consider the time sink.
