I'm in the middle of Oldboy currently. What does everyone think of it? So far it seems kinda gimmicky and while the setup is interesting, I'm finding it difficult to care much about the characters or really get totally invested in it.

I'm a fan of all 3 movies in the Vengeance Trilogy, though I have a hard time choosing a favorite.

You guys are right, the Criterion A/V quality is way better.

At first i thought these would be given similar treatment globally but after reading the reviews it seems getting the Criterions is the best option.

What are everyone's thoughts on L'Avventura? If the new restored version plays at my local art house, I might check it out. It sounds good.

I just got done watching Ministry of Fear. It's an enjoyable film, but I can't say it's worth buying for me. It's a fun noir though.

Be prepared for leisurely pacing (I should just say "slow") and a focus on something larger than the central mystery.

If it's your first Antonioni, I'm not sure if I'd recommend it... Maybe watch some of his more accessible works, like The Passenger or Blow Up, so you can get a familiar with his style and interests before delving in the deep end.

Heh, love the comment mentioning Super 8 1/2. I felt like I was the only person who has seen that.

Anyone else like to see Cockfighter on Criterion? Would be a perfect companion to Two-Lane Blacktop.

Criterion or MoC posted a still or set photo showing Warren Oates and a cock reflected in a mirror that got everyone excited for a little while...seems like it was about a year ago. Think it was on Facebook might've been Twitter.

Personally, I'll be getting few Criterion Collection movie titles when the Barnes & Noble sale arrives next week.

I almost never see anyone mention Monsoon Wedding. It's one of my favorites.

Monsoon Wedding is perfect.

I still need to see Mira Nair's Salaam Bombay. Need to fix that.

In an absolutely perfect world, we would receive a Criterion edition for every single Studio Ghibli film. This is the world I wish I lived in.

So, we had our first 'dud' from Criterion last night.

It's not a terrible film, but we did have problems with it and we wouldn't watch it ever again, so I'll probably put it up on Ebay later.

The movie was Something Wild.

And we didn't hate it, but found The Manic Pixie Dream Girl character pretty awful, and the movie to be super lacking in consequences. It really romanticizes some crappy behaviour.

We've had 25 successes before this one miss, so those are terrific odds - I'm certainly not complaining.

And Daniels and Liotta were fantastic (the second half of the movie was much more enjoyable than the first, once Liotta comes into the picture)

While it was definitely a fun film, I didn't really enjoy it either.

And each release as an extra would have one of the short films shown at the Ghibli Museum.
