I second this.

I viewed it last night. Excellent presentation. This was my first time watching it, I recall seeing the MGM DVD in stores back in the day and always being curious about this film.

FCE has unearthed a gem. While not as good of a film as 'Smile', 'Alphabet City' is the textbook example of style over substance working to perfection. The photography, music (can we get a release of that amazing OST) and its minimalist plot hold up very well as this is not only a time capsule of bygone New York, but it feels right at home with other recent race against time thrillers set in the city such as 'Good Time' - which 'Alphabet City' had to have influenced.

The special features are also great, looking forward to a second viewing with the commentary from Amos Poe.

For those who are unclear, ALPHABET CITY and I START COUNTING will be included in the sale. There are still slips for ISC, but they probably won't last long...

Coming from an obviously biased position, I agree on the virtues you lay out for ALPHABET CITY.

I don't think SMILE is even applicable to the conversation...these films are just doing such different things. But, glad you enjoyed them both and thank you for taking a chance on them!

I went in reverse order getting interested in FCE titles. Jeremy grabbed me first, then I Start Counting and finally Alphabet City.

I'm glad that kick in the pants finally came because I absolutely love this film and can't recommend it enough.

I Start Counting was my introduction to the FCE titles. It's a great movie.

Is Walking only shipping for non-subscribers?

I thought it was supposed to ship early, but I guess it was unclear if they are holding them back for subscribers to save on shipping?

They ship out to subscribers first then to non subscribers.

Outside of them both being FCE release, they are completely different films indeed. Keep up the great work! You have one loyal fan here and judging from this thread many more!

Re: Walking the Edge - Sent Vinegar Syndrome an email today sharing my disappointment that a film that gets a 4K remaster can't even get English subs on the disc.

Picture looks great....odd that they couldn't shed the dough to have the audio transcribed into an SRT file.

Their reply:

Sorry about this -- Walking The Edge does not feature a CC track. While this is outside of the norm, due to scheduling and production coordination issues, a CC track was not able to be included on this disc. We can assure you that this is a one time occurrence and that all future Fun City Editions releases will include CC tracks. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I imagine if you chose the "I'm a subscriber" shipping option, then it won't ship until your May package ships after the sale.

Non-subscribers who paid for shipping are supposed to ship before the sale.

Subscribers would have had to choose one of the other shipping options to have their order ship before the sale.

I assume. VS didn't really specifically address it anywhere.

My copy of Walking the Edge shipped today. Also, i highly recommend Alphabet City and I Start Counting to anyone who's on the fence about getting them during the sale. Both are really good films.

Not sure if I'm overstepping bounds by putting wishlist stuff out there, but wondering:
Any chance FCE could rescue Fever Pitch or Thief Who Came To Dinner from VHS purgatory? Not sure how you feel about Ryan O'Neal but seems like these are both ripe for reappreciation. Even Tough Guys Don't Dance needs a blu .. but now that Amazon is buying MGM not sure how that will effect licensing deals.

Picked up Jeremy and I start counting. I want Smile and Walking the Edge, but I’m going to wait a little bit longer, although I may cave during the sale. lol

Not at all. And there's probably not enough Ryan O'Neal love in the world, in general.
