I tried D-nice settings just now and didn't notice a difference even flipping from original to new on Pure. Actually the changes are very minor so I can't see much actually changing. Saprano is right the camera didn't do the pictures justice but what it did show is the amount of detail in the tree and the building that I was mentioning before. There is much more in the Optimal setting compared to the Pure setting. It doesn't look bad but at this point I am not getting that optimal picture I had expected from a Kuro. Perhaps it is something in my setup. I am using a PS3 to output to the Denon to the Kuro. I might try PS3 to KURO directly to see if that does anything different. I have the Denon set to 1080P, RGB, Enhanced. I tried other combos but couldn't really see any difference. The other thing is that optimal seems to give the detail I expect... just again PURE doesn't which unfortunately is the problem. |

I have been watching football all weekend on my new 101fd. At first I wasnt all that happy with Pure mode either... I dont know what changed or happened, but It looks much better now. I think it might have something to do with the source/channel Last edited by BLUCanadian; 09-15-2009 at 03:20 AM. |

Pure should be the most accurate mode.
For the most accurate mode for watching movies, cinema, movie, or pure mode are suggested. At first pure looks dull but you adjust to it after a minute. Your panel life should be extended using pure and the likelyhood of burn-in is reduced. Congratulations on your new TV. |

You are right that I have not done the D-nice break in procedure as of yet. I will be honest though that I don't understand why it would matter.
I have decided to make the break in and then change the settings at that time. You will all know the results in about 150 hours. I hope to be proven wrong. |

It's not going to matter. Put some money aside and get a pro to calibrate it. That's what I am saving up for. The controlcal stuff might help you if you don't want to do the pro route. But I rather save the money and have a pro calibrate the grayscale, color gamut and gamma curve to all line up. I don't have the tools or the experience to do this myself.

The problem is that there are no ISF people around my area that I would trust. I also didn't buy the tv locally so those that might do the calibration I would feel bad to call them up.
I understand this is the best but not an option right now. I never calibrated my good ol' LG LCD and after a year or so I got the picture to be spectacular(best it could be in my opinion) but I was expecting the KURO to out perform those settings out of the box. At this time I am uncertain and that obviously isn't what you would want from a tv claiming to be the 'best'. It doesn't look bad but just doesn't blow me away... and I wanted to be blown away like all of you seem to have been. I started the break in at about 11am today. I will leave it running until Friday and see how it goes. |

Don't feel bad, money is still green.
![]() Sorry you are not digging the Kuro. Have you tried User mode yet? I have 40 more hours till I hit 100, then I am going to stop the break in process. Since the M series has 50 hours from the factory. But I loaded up the same shot with the trees and it looks the same on pure. When dropping the L Red down it helped a bit. The LCD looked great on Pixar. When I put the Pixar on the Kuro it didn't stand out like it did on the LCD at first but it was very good. The Kuro looked better on standard DVDs and on Blu-ray non-animated pictures such as LOST and Narnia. I don't believe you will be as excited going from LCD to Kuro as you were going from CRT to LCD. Actually looking at your two pictures the Pure mode looks more natural whereas the Optimum mode looks brighter and more dynamic. I view the Kuro in the pure mode in a dark room and it looks as good as the local DLP cinema. I have Best Buy here and I am leery of having them do the calibration from what I have read on this forum. The picture looks great now so I will wait until I see some absolute need for calibration. |

I have never said the KURO wasn't a good picture or that it wasn't better than my LCD but it just doesn't blow me away. I guess I was expecting too much. I have gotten some private advice from a few KRP-500m owners and I will give it a shot. I also agree that Optimal is not very natural but there is clearly more detail in the picture which is all that I was concerned about. The colour/tone etc is fine when I watch pure but I just see a blurry image which is what worried me. The break in is going on right now... ugh... only been 13 hours! I dunno if I can last 100 hours... haha see how it goes. |

this is a stupid question but would soundbar speakers or just about ANY speakers work with the krp-600m? I was thinking of the samsung soundbar 8200 model they came out with this year. Also are the sound bar speakers required/recommended to be placed close to the tv?
I was wanting to place them on an AV cabinet, so it gives off a "decor" look and mount the tv above it. I think it looks weird mounting a soundbar under a mounted tv. I dont like the side detachable "ear-like" effect the tv gives off with pioneers own ones. thanks |
