Interesting how tastes differ. That is the one film out of that selection that I REALLY didn't like and therefore didn't buy. I love Sono's work, but this one just did not touch me at all. So I'd say the Hate trilogy (Love Exposure, Cold Fish, Guilty of Romance) is one everyone should see.

[Land of Hope is an interesting piece of work, of course. And it should be seen, because Sono made it, period. But it did not manage to connect with me on an emotional level like the other Sonos have.]

Thanks - I picked The Woodsman and the Rain, How To Use Guys With Secret Tips, and The Land of Hope. Pluto looks interesting as well.

Dear all, there has been a bit of a cock-up on Amazon with them listing the wrong price for the 'New Directors' box. Would have tried to suck it up, but it would have really hurt us, plus with only 16 pre-orders we've decided to cancel that listing and re-list under the new price.

This will go into affect over next day or so and we will repost with new link

as we feel bad for those 16 who pre-ordered at the price they pre-ordered at (£14.95), we will put up another 30 or so signed copies on kickstarter to cover most everybody who lost out. We know that this may not guarantee that everyone who had their order cancelled would be able to get the price they expected (that's why we're putting up 30 new copies instead of 16 for those who missed out on pre-order), but we hope it'll sort out most of them.

Very sorry for this, but Amazon aren't easy to deal with whatsoever.

Will post up on here, facebook, twitter and sending mailing list out when this comes into affect

thanks and sorry!

it should be seen because of Fukushima , not because Sono made it.

And the Mud Ship Sails On also takes place around Fukushima and has a connection to it as well, so I'd recommend it in this case. But I'd still say every Sono film should be seen. Even the lesser ones are very interesting and help understand him as a film maker. I'm still hoping for a release of "Bad Film". One of my favorites of his early work.

Bad Film has some complications between Sono and the sales agent. Plus it an only be sold as a complete package with all of Sono's films, so a 7 disc set or so, which i guess is something that would be good for a kickstarter, but would require a massive amount of money as all would need to be subbed which would cost a lot, then there's license fee and even worse would be the cost of BBFC which would probably be around £15,000 itself!

£15,000 just for the BBFC? Ouch!

I think I've seen that set of his early films on Amazon.co.jp. It is a nice set and I would love to see all these films subbed, but I assume that this would be a lot of trouble for something that might not sell all that well. I gues I'll just have to keep studying more Japanese!

With regards to bbfc fees/ratings you could do what 'Mr Bongo Films' did hehe
(
[Show spoiler]ignore them and make up the ratings
).

Please consider trying a crowd-funding campaign for such release.

I would love to get my hands on an English-friendly set with all of these earlier works, even if at a premium price.
If you go for it, just make sure that it would be a proper Blu-Ray boxset, and not a mixture of BD and DVD (some of the content of BDs, and other on DVD).

I'd be in for a Sion Sono Blu-ray Collection! Whether it's just his early works or the lot, I'll pledge whatever you need.

Dear all, amazon seems to be selling the NEW DIRECTORS FROM JAPAN release AT A LOSS so if you want to grab a ridiculously low price on it I'd pre-order it now at their mentally cheap price of just £10.25!

I'm sure that the price won't be there long as it's a bit of a mistake, but if you missed the kickstarter here's a chance to grab it now. Remember only about 700 copies available in total of a 3 disc dual format release!

Oddly enough it's not. Spent the whole weekend trying to figure it out, but it seems that ill get my share (which is still not great as amazon take 30% off the DEALER price) but it seems that this is bad for them. Apparently due to their strange computer system this sort of thing can happen from time to time, but i guess it's good for the customer and not them, but I'm still a little hesitant so been chasing this up all weekend. Think it's all ok though

Thanks for the heads up, I purchased a copy. We did not have this title in the database, either. It has been added.

I am assuming that it is one BD-50 and two DVDs?
