This does look incredible. I was impressed. I had forgotten how different this film was. Kind of a carnival romp through time and space running the entire gamut of sexuality. They even had Willis donning the metrosexual gear

I've had this since it came out with Leon, but I finally got to give it a full watch tonight with no distractions. What an awesome movie, I really appreciate it now and it's a really beautiful transfer. I can't wait for more film releases from Sony, and I seriously, seriously can't wait for Valerian to come home on UHD.

A UK UHD pre-order has been up for a while. Yes, dat Affleck flick got pulled but Valerian is coming from Lionsgate who LOVE putting out any old tat on UHD, even if all it drew at the box office was flies e.g. Dredd.

i was testing out new Atmos speakers yesterday and used this to test and wow
Not only did it look amazing, but it sounded amazing too! My only issue I had, was they overdid the reverb in a few scenes a bit, made it super-echo-ey especially in the rears when the 'size' of the room they were in did not call for it Anyone else pick this up at all? But this is a small niggle on an otherwise amazing disc |

I feel like 4K blu ray has already done a fair bit of good for several films that really needed a hand up to find an audience that actually likes movies. They'd be remiss not to.

Watched 5th Element UHD tonight. Not sure why it got some so so reviews, but the UHD/HDR was great man, considering the age of the movie. Definitely the best way I have ever seen it, and it amazes me how a movie that old understands how to handle proper black levels, but we get these crap new movies with elevated blacks...
Editors note or not, HDD review is horseshit, sorry. |

Just getting around to this disc. The HDR is outstanding - highlights are INSANE! I'd swear I could feel heat emanating from the screen during the explosions at the beginning. That said, I think this disc is Sony's first UHD misstep. I get that the sharpening doesn't seem to be the fault of the transfer, but YEESH, it is UGLY! And it is pervasive. It utterly destroys the PQ for me. A real shame, because from what I can tell, it would be a pretty nice transfer/restoration outside of that.

I started watching this last night and it is certainly my favorite edition compared to the two previous bluray editions that I also have. There is a good deal of detail in this 4K HDR release on my LG 65C6 and the sound is excellent as well. The only thing that bothered me about the picture was that it does have a darker overall look to it compared to my previous bluray. This is really not a big deal to me since it makes up for it with more detail.
I tried switching to HDR Bright from HDR Standard and it does help with the brightness but it looked a bit unatural to me so I switched back. Overall I like this 4K considering the age of the film and it is certainly one of my favorite movies that I find myself watching again and again. |
