Meh, this looks like a rental to me. Vikander looks as bored and full of personality as always.

The game looks better than the movie itself.

I see some signs that it could be okay, but the trailer is just so poorly edited, that it makes it look like a cheesy early 2000 schock-fest. I agree that Vikander just doesn't convey a lot of enthusiasm. She's basically Ex Machina in different roles.

The rebooted video game series is great, so with that as a template for the film, I'm optimistic it'll be okay. I never expect anything great from a video game movie though, that's just silly.

Whoa, some of those seemed like just random shots that kinda matched, but a good chunk of them were too close and specific to be coincidence. definitely looked like they are basically remaking that game!

Games are now made like movies.. I am just surprised how someone hasn't just remade a game exactly how it plays on the screen and see how good it is. I will say this though, Tomb Raider may not have been the one to do it with. The new games are great, but that is because of the gameplay, the stories were meh...

Now if there is a game that could have a shot for shot movie made off it, Uncharted or Last of Us would be the ones.

Are people really pretending the original movies were good?

Come off it.

20% on rt. 5.8 on imdb. Those films are shite. And the sequel grossed a whopping $120m less than the original. Those movies are the benchmark on how to make an awful adaptation.

No. People are just trying to say that this movie doesn't look like it's doing anything different from the first two movies.

Force awakens has 8.5 on imdb and that was shit.

No the original tomb raider films were not the greatest but I am sure it's something people grew up with and it was something "good" at the time.. Especially for being a video game movie. We can completely ignore the 2nd movie.

Nah. Force Awakens has 8.5 because it deserves an 8.5. Better, actually.

Looks a lot like the first game in the rebooted series. If they do a straight 2-hour adaptation of that, it might be decent. The reason Mortal Kombat is IMO the only good video game film adaptation is that it basically took the first game(and parts of the second) and threw it up there on the big screen(albeit with PG-13-level violence).

See, I think that's how you should adapt a video game. I hate it when they take a popular series and try to rewrite the mythology or add a bunch of superfluous crap to it. Tomb Raider should theoretically be easy. Take the plot from one of the games(in this case, the first rebooted entry), create a bunch of kickass set pieces(the games provide endless material), and cast a capable, attractive actress in the lead role. Same goes for Uncharted and The Last of Us if they ever get around to making those adaptations.

Obvious CGI and greenscreen, lots of slow motion, sassy quips = generic as feck.

At what point did we travel back in time to the 90's?

Also, isn't Croft suppose to be extremely sexy? Not seeing that here.

I honestly don't know how I feel about this first trailer. It looks like they are replicating the game very well, and even though she looks the part, her facial expressions almost convey a parody-like/fan film feeling. The trailer itself is edited horribly and looks cheap. It has potential to be good, and I will remain optimistic, but after the poster and the first trailer, I'm feeling kinda "meh" about it right now.
