I was wanting to place them on an AV cabinet, so it gives off a "decor" look and mount the tv above it. I think it looks weird mounting a soundbar under a mounted tv.

I dont like the side detachable "ear-like" effect the tv gives off with pioneers own ones.

thanks
If you do not want to use the optional Pioneer stereo speakers that attach to the side you can plug in two stereo speakers using the built in amp and set the speakers next to the Pioneer. A sound bar can also be used with HDMI switching for a simulated surround sound effect. A true 7.1 or 5.1 speaker system sounds better then a soundbar but the soundbars are a lot easier to connect. Soundbars can range between $200-$2,000+. Sony came out with a low cost 3.1 soundbar with 1080p/24 HDMI switching for $299.99 list price that can be found at Best Buy. Also mail order companies like Amazon have the Sony HT-CT100 for under $250.

cnet review on Sony HT-CT100

The Soundbars with HDMI switching cost more money and they make it easy to switch video and audio with one button. You can find a soundbar without HDMI switching for even cheaper then the Sony.

If you're thinking of connecting them directly from the monitor, I don't think it's a good idea. The 500m/600m's have an internal amp(9w x 9w at 6Ω) that powers the optional speakers. I don't think it would be wise to connect powered speakers without running a risk of damaging the internal amp. But, if you can find some non-powered speakers that don't require a lot of power, I don't see why they wouldn't work.
If you're thinking of doing it like the above post, go for it. Or you can just use an AVR and some smaller speakers or a non-powered soundbar (powere from the AVR).

Best Buy is getting very low on Pioneer models

I stopped in my local Best Buy yesterday and all they had left for Pioneer plasma models was the top of the line 60 inch PRO-141FD Elite Signature series monitor and 60 inch PRO-151FD Elite TV. Most likely soon those will be gone as we get closer to fall season. All other Pioneer plasma models including floor models were gone.

I finally installed ControlCal , I worked on it all day yesterday for about 8 hours and couldn't figure it out.(installing the patch) I'm very computer challenged, so It was a real achievement for me when I could finally see those "ISF" logos on my picture menu

I think it's great but I wish I would of waited until those new Onkyo models came out at the end of the month(I forget the model#s but they are more higher end than the new 807)

That sure is funny. The first time I did it I kept sending emails and calling turbe on the phone. He took me through it step by step until everything was right. One day I came home from work and my wife was using it and told me if I would of read all the instructions to the very end, it would have been very easy . I was so embarrased because she never touches anything in my HT.

same here! I worked on it yesterday from 12 Noon until I gave up around 2AM. I sent emails back and forth to Turbe all day yesterday. I couldn't unzip the patcher file and Finally he must of got sick of emailing him every minute and called my house at 9:30pm. Doing this ControlCal thing was a huge nightmare for "me", but I'm sure others find it very easy. The crappy thing is... There is only 1 person who has some ISF settings and they don't look too swell on my tv. So atleast I have some cool looking "ISF" logos on my picture setting menu . I'm going to try the "Spears and Munsil" calibration BD tomorrow.

HAHAHA! I have them too but mine were free since the 141 allows you to unlock the ISF settings over network. Just can't go to all the settings you can.

Why would you rather have onkyo?

The only thing that keeps me looking at onkyo and denon is audyssey. i've been using it with my 705 for over a year now. im used to it, so simple to use. MCACC seems more complex. you can just use auto MCACC, but the manual feature will probably take some learning.

Another thing is MCACC doesn't EQ the sub like audyssey. though the next sub i get has its own room EQ.

Those are the things i don't like about pioneer receivers. but i want to try something new so i'll be getting it anyway. im sure the ICE amps sound amazing.

It took me a long time to get the sc-27 to sound great! But now I now MCACC like the back of my hand! And I can say now, that i like the sound better on my sc-27 than i did on my ONKYO 876

did you have your ISF modes pro calibrated? or did you use someones settings? because even though I have the ISF modes unlocked I still find myself going back to "Standard" as my picture mode?

I used D-Nice settings! But I did his break in... You will see that standard look good on cert. things, but once you look @ isf day and night! They are much better. Your probl used to a LCD type screan.. LOL it will take time to get used too. But on my tV, isf modes smoke all the other ones.

I like hoe the new Onkyos have the PLllz height and width channels and the extrz subwoofer input is nice. But I am pretty happy with the SC-27,It is the first THX certified class D AVR. I read somewhere that when you turn the volume on it up to "0" that it is considered reference level by THX. that is the volume they reccomend people to watch movies at. I usually watch movies between -28to-30. The MCACC isn't too bad to setup, my sub has an EQ built in so the that doesn't affect me.

yeah, there is a lot more settings for the 151 than just the 1 for the 600M, I wish more people would post their setting. I had a DLP before I bought my Kuro. I just don't like my picture to look dark thats why I like Standard.

I use D-Nice settings also. When I first had the pioneer delivered in July '08 I promised to myself that I was going to do the break-in for a week. That plan went totally out the window as soon as I went to work and came home and my wife and kids were watching the bd of cars. From then on I just did the break-in at night. I can truthfully say after a couple of weeks you do notice a difference in the picture. After about six months,I got Controlcal and have only used ISF day/night since. You do have to force yourself to get use to the way the picture looks when you are use to another kind of picture but once you do there is no turning back. I would love to get the panel pro calibrated but I can't stop buying BDs and HT gear .
