Until recently, I thought there was NO WAY they could put that in a re-make, but society is so crazy and permissive about sick things right now, I wouldn't be shocked. I sincerely HOPE NOT, because if they do, I won't see this film. And that's a shame because the trailer looks GREAT.
You actually bring up an interesting topic. I've noticed on this thread that Fukunaga seems to be being critized for apparently wanting that scene in his version of the film (rumored or not) but you're the first person to actually criticize King for writing and thinking of it in the first place. Don't get me wrong. I'm a huge King fan but I do have to point that fact out.

I rewatched the original mini series a few months back, didn't like it as much I remember from when I was a kid. The trailer for this however looks really good & I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Hmmm.. that trailer was pretty well done.. right up until that last shot of Pennywise running towards the screen.

The less they show of him, the better it will be me thinks..?

I think it's more to do with the timeline gap. When the novel was written the 80s was modern day and the cycle starts again every 27 years so 27 years previous would be the 50s. If you set it so that the modern day is the 2010s, then 27 years previous will naturally be the 80s.

This movie couldn't have come in a more appropriate time. Pennywise awakens every 27 years to kill his prey. It's been 27 years since the original mini-series. Also the popularity of Stranger Things and the recent clown sightings.

I saw a clown driving a car when I was stuck in traffic last Friday. It freaked me out a bit but then I remembered it was Red Nose Day so (hopefully) to do with that.

I don't recall ever seeing a clown in person before in my entire life. I don't know? Maybe I have, but I just don't remember.

What kind of world do we live in when a grown man can't put on makeup and give candy and balloons to kids without people thinking he's 'creepy'?

I never really found clowns scary, but I can totally see why some people have a phobia towards them.

So, is part 2 being made now? Someone on youtube claimed that it won't be made unless this one is successful, but don't they kind of have to finish the story anyways? I mean, I guess they could just end it, but fans of the book or original film will know only half the story was told.

Yeah, I believe the studio is waiting to see how this one does first, before they move forward with a part II.

Morning guys, question for fans of the book.

In Chapter 2, Steve Dubay is being interviewed and it's pointed out that he's quite dumb because he left school at 16. (in the next sentence it goes on to say he repeated 7th grade three times but the first sentence simply says that the cop was not surprised to find out that Dubay left school at 16 as if that's a really early age to drop out).

I never fully understood that sentence as here, 16 is the normal age to leave school...at least it was not too long ago. Do American schools go on for much longer?

Keep, the kid from midnight special grew up fast. That must've been filmed awhile ago.

Yup, American kids stay in school till they're 18ish. We have twelve years of mandatory schooling over here, and most of them still don't learn anything.

Looks like the last shot of Pennywise showing up in the trailer is starting a meme.

Gotta say, the projector scene in the trailer reminded me a lot of Sinister, which I thought was a great little horror (apart from the stupid ending). That said, I hope it doesn't become a cheap jump scare. It works well as a kind of creepy flicker book.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. In the UK you left at 16 when I was in school (not long ago, I'm only 25), but over the last few years it has changed to 18.

I guess I always took that sentence as a bit of an insult as many people leave school at 16 and don't have an IQ of 64 or whatever Dubays is. But now I get that King was writing it from a purely American perspective.
