I like my cases to look nice.
Sticky residue - Goo Gone (costs about $5-10 bucks) Broken case - swap in a new one Eco case - swap in a new one Used DVD/Blu-ray - won't buy unless the artwork is intact. Will buy even with scratches on the disk. I don't return stuff usually - too much hassle. |

I'm just tired of buying a new movie or show with multiple disks and opening it up only to have the middle disk's tray fall out because it's all ready broken.
I think the eco cases are a bit of a joke considering they tried to be green by using less plastic, only to have me throw that case (which protects nothing!) out and buy a better made one without holes over the disks vital parts... essentially making the eco cases LESS eco friendly. As for simply buying a replacement case for all broken or eco cases to better protect my BD's, that can get costly. Especially considering the movies come with a case that is all ready supposed to do that job. I can only speak for myself, but I am not crazy for wanting thing I've payed for to function the way they are supposed to. |

It does suck to get a cracked case, especially when you want to proudly display your Blu-Ray collection for all visitors to see. It's not the worst thing in the world, however, occasionally I do buy a 10-pack of new BD cases just in case that happens cause I have had it happen a few times.

I have a bunch of cards and Star Trek TNG toys (never opened), packed away. I'm afraid to get them out and sell them because they probably aren't worth half as much as I had been hoping when I was spending all my cash on them as a teenager. I did buy comics too and pack them in boards and bags, to protect the investment, now when I buy a comic they just get tossed on a shelf.
I admit collecting is fun, hunting down somthing is great. But movies, comics, toys, etc. should be enjoyed. It's nice to keep your belongs neat and clean and in one piece, but we have to relax. I used to be completley anal about my CDs and DVDs, cases and discs. I used to leave the plastic on my VHS boxes and just cut off the bottom plastic with an exacto knife then slip the tape out, so the box could last forever. Age will get all of us and our once important belongings. Someday they will really seem not important at all. Why sweat theses small things; there are more important things in life. Like spending my time at Blu-ray.com typing messages in forums that really have no point. ![]() |

I agree with enjoying your stuff, especially since a lot of things you think might be worth money someday, are going to be essentially worthless in a few years.
The problem with a lot of collectibles (baseball cards, comic books, etc), is that once they became popular with collectors, they started to be produced on a very large scale to satisfy the surge in demand. Mickey Mantle cards were collectable not only because he was a great player, but because they were incredible rare and hard to find in good condition. Then you got card companies printing 4 million Ken Griffey cards each year, and everyone kept them in mint condition, sealed in plastic sleeves. Suddenly it's not rare anymore, and everyone's copy is in mint, so yours isn't special. Same thing with comics - issue #1 of Spiderman in good condition is a rare find. But the Death of Superman issue was so widely published that everyone had a copy, stored in plastic, so it stood no chance of becoming valuable. |

A functioning case needs to keep a disc from moving around and must close tightly to keep out dust and other elements. The ones who send stuff back to amazon because there is a tiny flaw in the artwork, cardboard box, plastic sleeve or Blu-ray logo are really going to far. Can just picture some people sterilizing their hands. Then slowly and carefully getting a Blu-ray off the shelf. Next, laying it on an empty table that is covered with a dust free black velvet tablecloth. Opening the case ever so slowly and exhaling deeply in the realization that the disc has not disappeared or been damaged while sitting on the shelf, which happens to be in a environmentally controlled room that has zero humidy and is always at a perfect 20 degrees Celsius. Then the hard part, picking up the disc and turning with the most meticulous care they start walking towards the PS3. All the while, praying to the movie gods that it will not slip out of their hands and go crashing to the floor and land face down on the dust and lint that has been waiting in the carpet for months just for this exact moment. This time success. The disc has made it into the player without incident. The movi-watcher sits down, sighs with relief and wipes the single bead of sweat from their left eyebrow. I paid $50 for the death of Superman comic a week after it came out, it is sitting in a closet. |

It's funny... I just came on here to make this thread.
I'm pretty OCD about my Blu-Ray cases... I cant stand when there is glue left on the case after removing security seals, when a cardboard slip is damaged, when the case is warped somehow, when the box art is damaged or when little pieces of plastic stick to the spine of the case. I guess I should really get over it... as all they do is sit on my shelf. Still... bothers me. |

hehe yeah I must admit it annoys me when I open the cases and there's shattered pieces of plastic due to shipment or something. I actually have a couple of DVDs where the spindle part is broken and won't hold the disc safely, or it's a bit shallow and the disc slips off it. The other side of that is cases where it seems impossible to remove the disc without bending it.
Seems an eternal issue with discs of all kinds actually. |

I'll replace the case myself if that's all that is wrong.
The Baraka paper case was another matter though. No way I was prepared to risk scratching the disc taking it out of there. I made alternative artwork and used a regular case. Little chips on the corner of the case annoy me, but I won't bother to return it. Glue is annoying too. Last edited by Steve46; 06-27-2009 at 04:09 PM. |

My stepsister and brother make fun of me because I am so anal about it. When we go to a store, and I plan on buyign one, I have to look at every single copy they have in order to find the best one. I hate buying online alot of times because how I cannot examine it with my own eyes first.
What I hate the most is when the artwork is not perfect. I can deal with the case, but if the artwork has the whitish worn edges, I can not stand it. Also, I hate how different blu ray case brands are shapped differently, ie. the viva brand and the ones sony uses. To fix that, I bought sony cases from sleeve city and switch out cases so every single case is the exact same. Only time I do not do this, is if the movie has a slipcover so the box cannot be seen anyway. And if a slipcover is damaged, that bothers me alot to. |
