People need to face the fact and accept it but most people won't because they have too much pride in their hearts.

isn't there another age thread somewhere?

Sirius, you have a heck of a setup for being 18. There has to be some kind of outside influence that helped you obtain all of that!

I was going to say, that, Sirius - I think ol' icey here meant financially, not knowledge wise. Either you work very hard, or the parents have to help.

let it spill man, this is now turning into a therapy session. We are here for you. At least for my HT, every time I buy something, maybe even just a new blu, I repeat the word "investment" to myself or out loud.

As far as your sons Honda, let him know I did the same exact crap to my 2000 civic, and it was stolen twice, and broken into numerous times. Even though it was more for show, and I didn't put alot into the engine, the way it looked was enough for it to be taken from me and raped beyond belief.

icey?....kind of like that

I think I started the age/sex thing.

Crazy - thought so - so "you da man" still applies
Sirius - nice to see some lil Ladies around here. (Find the rest )
Liquidice - the mystery continues...

Oh, and my simple answer to the thread question: Respect which takes time.

Man! I'm always late to the thread parties!

I personally lingered on this site for about a couple months before I joined. First found it while looking for deals on the internet for a PS3 and my first Blus. Seems like yesterday *tear*.

This site has caused me great financial instability...lack of money when I need it most; and seperation of my exGF and I. She said I loved my speakers and sub more than her . All jokes aside, she would get mad that I was always on this site with you fine people! And when we finally split, I turned to this site for comfort...odd, I need help . But all you guys with your nice HT gear, setups, advice, and just plain seeing the growth of everyones setup and mods was enough to keep me distracted and from going insane when I wasn't out with friends

Since then, I'm beginning to tighten up the loose ends on my setup. Antec cooling, Harmony remote (thank god!), finally hanging up that Fight Club poster and more blus! I finally bought an SPL meter and calibrated my system to a flat freq response, which has made my Polks all that much more appealing to last me another couple years.

Looking to upgrade the sub, and I know some of you think I'm crazy, but hey, who isn't on this site at some point or another?!

And finally! M-18, Texas *thinks of movie quote from Full Metal Jacket*

EDIT: I have NOT gone through the car phase...yet. I'm thinking about it though. Maybe a better sound system will just it...who knows??

I enjoy the forums, and I post on quite a few different forums on the web. I'm blessed to work in the AV industry, have friends that share my passion, and participating on these boards is a pleasure. I'm truly amazed at the setups I've seen. And I don't just mean in terms of amount of $$$ spent alone. I mean, in terms of originality, ingenuity, and dedication. I think we can all learn from each other. However, I do like to see people's setups since I'm a visual person, and it's interesting.

With regards to negative opinions, that comes w/ the territory. If you're going to put yourself out there, then brace yourself for all responses. I remember running a contest where we were giving away free Razer gaming accessories. As in, free gaming keyboards and mice etc. Can you believe people complained. People complained! We were giving away free stuff! Some people are just miserable, c'est la vie.

Financial responsibility...lol...i'm not sure what that is. Look at the changes my gallery has gone thru since February. I'm on my 3rd major revision of my bedroom setup. I haven't even got started on what I plan on doing for living room in a few months. I use to be on this site a lot on my iPhone with a gf I had and she would get mad about my 'upgraditus' or being on her computer. I really mostly only did look at this site while she was getting ready (which took forever most of the time). She sure seemed to like my setup though but didn't hesitate to criticize me looking at stuff on this website. We aren't together...it didn't cause our breakup but I can see where this site might lead to relationship issues. I went thru the car phase...I went for looks and stereo. I had like 5 10'' subs in my 94'' olds cutlass supreme convertible, alpine amps, neon lights, alpine indash 3 disc changer, wheels, tinted windows...etc. Did I ever have a good time in that car....this was back in 1999 right out of high school and I think gas was under $1. Liquidice...I had my stereo deck stolen twice so I can relate. How old are u now? At 28...I've definitely learned that the car thing wasn't worth it. Your car becomes a 'marked' target so to speak. I about lost my license from speeding (2 tickets were under 10mph...but I had 3 speeding tickets in a year so it put me on probabtion)...had dents put in my car...windows broke...so yea more trouble than what it was worth. I didn't even get into fights and this stuff happened. I'm rambling on...lol...what was the point of this thread again?

Besides.... many audiophiles spend more time READING (yes, actual books) more about audio theory, than many members here spend time actually listening to recordings.

I haven't gotten to the car phase, I probably won't do anything major to whatever car I get anyway, maybe change the front grille or add an exhaust tip, depending on the car I get of course.

and thanks!

Definitely love this site. And the 'rude' opinions do seem to leave a bad taste in some members mouth. I can also see were issues would arise with tainting this forum board with minimal negative comments. Other than that, we all have our opinions on our setups as well as others. This is a passion and as a long as we keep that passion within bounds and play nice, it's all in good humor...and an empty wallet...

Hello everyone. I'm chiming in a little late, but wanted to offer some thoughts in general. This is certainly one of the first fourms I have actively participated and feel pretty comfortable, just because most are helpful and offer a sincere amount of incite. The one thing I've tried to keep in mind is that we are all on different levels and I try to respect each as an individual.

What I have a hard time with is ettiquete. There will be times when several people will reply to a particular thought or question, but I'm not sure if I should thank each one individually or make a general response. Other times I plain out don't know how to respond. Not out of dislike or trying to be rude, I just don't want to come across as a tool who is an ass.

There are times when it like whats this person trying to pull and kinda get pissed so to speak. I mean should I be my self and speak my mind. i dunno I guess its all about getting to know the person that is responding. Hopefully I don;t get to slammed for this, being too sensitive and all.

As far as the Ht setups, they are wonderful, it gives everyone an idea of whats out there. Like the IDEA lights I would have never known about these had it not been for the galleries. I all for them, I just havent particiapted. So I'm one of those that rate and don't have a gallery set up. Guilty.

done the big car audio thing years ago as well as shows but not since 95, switched over to real race cars for about 7 or 8 years but the love for great audio never died and now video/HT and that's my story and i'm stickin' to it; as far as the ratings & such just be real.

for those on that topic.........

the sooner you realize that cars are simply "Transportation" and very rarely 'investments' or status symbols (although they are status symbols unfortunately) the happier you'll be.

Save money... travel, host parties, and just go out and have fun......

Ah yes I remember the car phase... crawling around in the dirt, swapping out engines, cruising at 150 mph on the 401, outrunning the cops, stacks of speeding tickets, the crawling around in the dirt, the big 440 and 383 Chargers, the 400 Vega swap, the crawling around in the dirt.... Bah this is more fun and a lot cleaner
