I love Iced Earth too! However despite Matt Barlow's return I was sorely disappointed in The Crucible of Man. The songs were so average, except for Come What May which I thought kicked ass.

Divide and Devour, Come What May and I Walk Alone were mine but yeah I hear ya. Oh well, at least we have more Demons and Wizards coming within the next year.

My fault then, I do see how you can get tired of them though.

Jon is trying to do too much with the songs now. He's got the "epic bug", trying to fill every song with orchestras and choirs and anything else he can think of. It doesn't seem like his riffing has slowed much so I think he needs to get back to brass tactics and do some down and dirty metal like they used to.

i know you guys are going to say or think that these bands aren't really metal but anyhow, Motorhead is going to be touring late summer with Rev. Horton Heat (which i don't really care for) and Nashville ***** (whom i really enjoy).

Divide Devour was cool except for the chorus. Iced Earth is NOT Blind Guardian and that's exactly what I thought when I heard the chorus to Divde Devour. Yes, I Walk Alone was good but I had already spun it to death (it WAS the single) by the time TCOM came out. I also like Harbinger of Sorrow quite a bit.

I am very excited for the next Demons and Wizards!

Absolutely! I said it once before about TCOM. Jon was so focused on making the Something Wicked albums sound epic than he forgot to make them sound evil. That's what I loved about the original Something Wicked Trilogy. From the moment it starts, it comes after your ass and does not let up for the duration of all 3 songs! It was evil sounding and Set was a complete bad ass!

Jon needs to get back to making meat and potatoes metal! Guitar, bass, drums, vocals. That's it! No violins, french horns, tubas, kazoos, etc! He really needs to revisit his own work from the first album through Burnt Offerings to gain some inspiration.

I used to like Iced Earth. Liked the "Ripper" Owens material too..and then he gets s--- canned ...haven't paid much attention to Iced Earth since.

Beyond Fear from Ripper was good. Last I heard, he was with Yngwie Malmsteen...poor guy...lol

btw, any other fans of All Shall Perish?

I've loved this band forever and feel they progress with every release. I have no clue what they will do now that Chris Storey isn't with them anymore. Dude's guitar skills are ridiculous.

Yeah and Judas Priest before that. I haven't heard the new Yngwie but it's supposed to be pretty good. Tim just released a solo album called Play My Game. I feel bad that he hasn't come into his own yet because he definately has the skill. He's a super nice guy too. Lives about 15 minutes from me. Not that we barbeque together but I have talked with him.

I don't see what the big deal about Ripper is. Yes his screams are unreal but that's all he has. When he's just "singing" it's nothing impressive to my ears. I was not a big fan of his in or out of Iced Earth.

well I dig SS, bored with Winds (unless they really do something interesting with the new album..), and love Whitechapel.

Whitechapel played here a lot back in the day. Usually with A Life Once Lost and/or Dead To Fall. Gooooooood times.

Play My Game was OK....I was really hoping for Beyond Fear II..But it was nowhere close....and he really shouldn't write lyrics....Oh well, and Perpetual Flame was very good, but I never dug the production, it sounded almost muffled, maybe it's me..

Devin Townsend's "Ki"...

although it's not that heavy compared to Ziltoid and his Strapping Young Lad stuff... Devin is a guitar God!

It's definitely better than their old stuff. They are good dudes too. My brother has tattooed Mitch and hangs with them when he is in Cali haha. Bastard.

Best album of 09 so far for me is probably Kreator's Hordes Of Chaos

Haven't been listening to too much new music lately as my Zune died. It was kinda my fault, as it fell 8 feet onto concrete.
