OK. On topic.

I ended up with an LED/LCD because:

1) I love the look of the PQ that 3D quality

2) The PQ makes me feel like I am actually standing in the scene

3) Less heat generated=less electricity=more Green which my wife loves and helped sell the notion that I needed a new TV

But everyone has their own thoughts: Do you like that film quality of the picture or do you like it sharp and crisp? That is what you want to consider.

Jim, if your talking about those new ultra thin LED's, I heard their whites can be out of control, and you can get a ghosting of white around certain objects. Anyways, that's just what I heard or read.

Yes, that is what I have the ultra thin Samsung UN55B8000. I did a lot of reading on the forums and read all the so called "negatives." Yet, I never saw the negatives while viewing the sets at retail stores. I went to a ton of different stores looking at the Samsung 6000, 7000 and the 8000 trying to see the problems and I never did.

I took my own Blu and played it at many retail stores comparing plasma, LCDs, LEDs and what I really like was the 55B8000. I never did see all the problems that the forums talked about. So I thought I would take a chance and get what I liked, the Samsung 55B8000.

My thought was maybe the critics on the forums were too critical and had to find something wrong or they would not be "critics." Or maybe they used meters to test the TVs to discover flaws, flaws my eyes would never see.

Anyway, I took a chance and it worked out. No problems, no whites, no flash lighting, ghosting, etc., etc. Since purchasing, I have read that if there were problems, a reviewer mentioned all he had to do was turn down the back lighting a little and that took care of what ever problem he saw. I had also talked to Samsung and was told if there were any kind of problems with the set, they would take care of it.

I love the PQ that I have with the set and very happy with my decision. So much so, I don't think I will spend $300-$400 to have it calibrated.

I was a Plasma purist true to its essence and free from adulterating or diluting influences UNTIL I walked up to the alter of BB and saw the "Light" a brand new, beautiful LED. Perfection. How could I have been so blind as not to see the truth. What was I thinking. No longer will I praise the panel of the "P...." but walk in the light of the LED.

I am actually anxious to see this. There is so much hype around it, but until I see a 50" version, I'm reserving excitement.

Everything looks good at 11".

imo the current 55" samsunf LED LCD is a great buy... awesome contrast ratio for an lcd - even beating some big name plasmas like Panasonic....

LOL. Show me where someone has measured ANSI contrast and shown that the Samsung LCD beats any plasma. It just won't happen. If you are simply refering to the meaningless dynamic contrast ratio numbers, then you need to understand what those number mean (or don't) in terms of picture quality. Read-up on it here:

If this new technologoy gets out soon this will probably mean that older Gen. like Plasma's will have a little price drop, that would be perfect for me

Don't hold your breath for anything in the next couple of years. Oh, they may get some <50" sets out in the next year or so, but it will cost you 2-3X the price of a good LCD or plasma. My 'take' on it, anyway.

Your "take" usually ends up being correct or something my gut agrees with Ric

But run what ya brung.

Lol ok we wont try to convince you,we know better,as u have a very nice set,it all comes down to opinion I almost bought the same plasma and i personally liked the pic on the sammy lcds better once again thats just my opinion.Everybody has different views and looks for different things when purchasing a tv,there are still people out there that will claim there rptv has a better pic than your plasma. So that being said in my opinion I have seen lcds with a better pic than your plasma! Also the fact that u own a plasma so u wont admit even if u really did see one with a better pic!

Lol wtf lmao rofl

Like I said...run what ya brung. There's definitely something to be said for personal opinion...after all, it's your money.

There's also something to be said for the fact that plasmas consistently rate higher than LCDs in terms of overall PQ, and that the usual list of "top hdtvs" made by professionals around the world always has plasmas at the top spot...in many cases, the top, second, third, fourth...

So I guess I just share their 'opinions'. Works for me.

All of this said, my next tv purchase (down the road) will be LCD, assuming no major tech changes by then. It'll be for the 'family room', and I don't want to deal with break-in, IR, etc, and I won't be looking for reference PQ for my kids to watch the Cartoon Network. It'll look great, I'm sure.

Way off topic, but that's a fantastic quote in your sig.

This sentence of your posts seems like you are tired of your IR and Break-in etc... Could you please elaborate on your comments

For a reference set, on which I watch all of my blu-rays, and therefore want the best possible picture I can afford, I am willing to invest time in break-in. I am also willing to ask my wife not to leave it on the History channel all day due to its ridiculous, full-color logo (just an example of how I avoid IR...there are other channels). I am not tired of any of this, because I get to watch my blus on a V10.

But when I buy another one with the express intention of installing it where the family will use it all day and night (the wife likes to leave them on for background noise ), and I won't be worried about having the best possible picture/black levels/color saturation/motion/bla bla bla, it will be an LCD so I don't have to give the 'maintenance' a second thought. I am thankful that LCD tech has progressed far enough that for broadcast programming only, I will see very little difference (and the rest of the family will see none). And since I won't be using it on "Movie Night", I won't care.
