Thank you Eddie! Speaking about inspiring, I believe you were one of the first inspirations that got me into the projector/plasma dual display set-up in the first place.

I am crossing my fingers that the DIY AL will give me decent enough results so that I will be able to enjoy the 2.35 experience until an opportunity comes along on a brand name AL.

Tals, Fors,

Thanks for the comments! The valance sure did make a difference with appearance and reflections as I had hoped. In a perfect world, all my walls and ceiling would be covered with black velvet!

Default Prisms are here

UPS delivered the trophy prisms today. I will be using these for my DIY anamorphic lens. I was able to buy them from a fellow AVS member who used them for some two years and has new been able to upgrade to a Panamorph AL. At first I panicked because they looked in bad shape. But after I cleaned them, they look fine. Total cost was $125 for both and included a home-made enclosure and plexiglass attachments. The beauty of getting it from him is that he followed more or less the same approach that I had planned. Below are some pictures.

This is the general idea of what I planned on building:

The prisms would be attached to plexiglass and screws as shown in the diagram:

This is coming straight from the following link which is what I am using as my guidelines:
http://www.zuggsoft.com/theater/prism.htm

Here's one of the prisms and plexiglass. I received them unattached to the prisms but I realized that using double-sided tape instead of glue would actually work better because the tape will also cushion the prisms.

Here's a pic of plexiglass attached to the prism with the double-sided tape. Sorry for the fuzzy picture (still learning how to take close-up pics)

Here's how it looks assembled in the home-made enclosure I received. It is a temporary solution because I planned on using wood instead of mdf and also I planned on focusing on aesthetics more.

I did some preliminary tests by simply holding the apparatus up to the projector. The prisms do exactly what they were supposed to do - They take the skinny image and expand it to fill the 2.35 screen. And more importantly the image is good! This thing weighs a ton, since each prism is a 5"x7" piece of glass, so I really need to build the manual sled to truly do the proper adjustments. So far, I am excited and think this will work out pretty good for me. More to come.

Vega outstanding job with the prism. You could have a good future in forming and finishing telescope optics both mirrors and lenses.

You have quite a bit of talent.A good telescope optics maker is in high demand and can make a mint.
I still cant get over the job you have done with ths "Star Field" and the Velvet Valance.

Thanks guys!

For the record, I am only putting the pieces together, the prisms were sold to me. I will be building my own enclosure and sled.

Last night I showed my wife what the hell I was doing. She has heard me try to explain but she simply did not grasp the concept. Once I put the apparatus in front of the projector and she saw the 2.35 screen fill-up with the image, she was amazed and excited -- She wanted to know if it would be ready for the weekend!

Just make sure you get all fingerprints from the INSIDE of the box.

I assume you mean clean the fingerprints before I seal the box? At first I had the same concern, but you will be able to disassemble the enclosure to get to the prisms if you need. Also, the screws you see coming out of the prisms are there so that you can adjust the position of the prisms, which means you can get to the inner side simply by moving the prisms far enough.

Thanks Fors.

Around this place being possessed about HT is the norm! You started out with a screen and projector, and now you're redecorating your room, getting ceiling treatments, posters, memorabillia, need I say more.

that's good to hear that they are movable. One picture made it look like there was a wedge that fit between the two in order to keep it place. Glad to hear there's easy access.

I did not realize you have done everything since Jan. Maybe you need to take the title of CRAZY for a while.

I see you are focusing on room cosmetics now.

Thanks lou, my wallet is buried in the backyard now. Cosmetics and room aesthetics are being worked on right now, yes. I still need a new sectional, but in time. At least the wife is on board now with the room's new look, and is adding some suggestions. Nice to finally get her on board.

Getting the wife on board on a project is like getting a free shopping spree at your local HT store!

Sounds awesome Vega! I agree with you about adding a more aesthetically pleasing enclosure. Great to hear it works as intended though. I'll be watching this thread to hear (and hopefully see) how it all turns out.
