So many but if I have to choose one, then it will be Fight Club. Buildings exploding to "Where is My Mind" while the 2 characters hold hands and watch the chaos. Then quick man shot, then credits. Awesome ending.

One of my favorite endings is from "Greedy", a 1994 comedy starring Michael J. Fox, Kirk Douglas and Phil Hartman. Not only was it funny, the twist in the last 30 seconds that had me rolling.

Hands down, The Mist.

Best ending in a movie ever. Stephen King even said he wished he had thought of it for the novella.

I have to agree with you on Close Encounters, one of my favorite movies of all time. Someone earlier said Sleepaway Camp, that was the most twisted ending in a film I have ever seen. Totally caught me off guard.

I know the movie is not that good, but Mirros has a very cool ending.

Without a doubt, The Empire Strikes Back.

Oh, and a SPOILER is a SPOILER, whether is four years old, or fifty. It's not like we can start telling everybody who hasn't seen Citizen Kane what rosebud is, right?

EDIT:

Best: The Empire Strikes Back
Coolest: Mirrors
Saddest: Monsters, Inc.

A recent one for me would be 'The Lives of Others'.

And my very FIRST favorite ending would be 'Dirty Mary Crazy Larry'

I would have to say either Seven or Fight Club for most shocking endings.

The Green Mile Forrest Gump (When he is at the grave) & The Shawshank Redemption were good endings as well...
