RIP Rutger Hauer.

Now, more than ever, The Hitcher needs to get a solid Region A or Region-Free release.

Would love to see a Region A release, but not one that's recycled from the existing releases out there.

Would be interesting to know if this is for sale since the german company got rights albet a old master/scan. Then some original elements would be for sale also right? We see all these brand new 2k/4k masters of much more obscure titles but this no one seem to touch beside recently. It's kind of strange.

Those of us who dared to import the recent 1080p BD have, for the most part, been really happy w/our copies. Is it perfect? No. But it is the best it has ever looked on disc. If you are a fan of this great film, and are region free, I highly recommend.

Where did you order from? I’ve seen a lot of different covers, want to make sure I order the correct one.

Just watched the German Blu-ray over the weekend. It looks great.

I was FINALLY able to see a proper home release for this (awesome) film.

Bravo.

I put this in The Dark Knight trilogy thread but I wanted to put it here as well. Christopher Nolan must’ve been inspired by this film when writing Ledger’s Joker in Dark Knight. John Ryder and the Joker are pretty much the exact same character. Even down to the weird relationship between the protagonist and antagonist.

I like Sean Bean, but he is no Rutger Hauer playing that character. Hauer was amazing playing that role.
I watched the Bean version. Wish I didn't, tbh.

I actually loved Bean in the role. Was told to watch the Hauer film on Hulu but it wasn't there.

I just ordered a region 1 blu ray copy of the German release of The Hitcher from Stinky Tuna. It also comes with a custom made cover art that looks just like the DVD cover art. The quality is FABULOUS and until it's made available in any other format....this will allow me to retire my DVD. I'm happy.

"pretty bad disc"? Hmm. They must have released 2 editions, because the one I bought is pretty good. It's certainly the best this movie has ever looked on any home format. I can't imagine watching the DVD again.

Yeah it looks better than dvd but that is no way a watermark for my blu-rays. Seeing what warner archive, arrow, shout and many others can do this is not the quality I want so I will keep hoping for a better version.

The German version comes from a theatrical print so it was never going to be super.
