Agreed. Tron is in my top ten blu-ray wants, and I wants it before the new film comes out!

I hope they included all the features from the 20th ani DVD...and then some.

I hope you're right. Also, Disney did release Toy Story and Toy Story 2 before the third film hit theaters. Fingers crossed.

No doubt. Who knows what they will actually do.

well they should obviously release it when Legacy comes out in theaters OR when Legacy hits bd.
I thought everyone had been saying it was coming when the film came out, but
either way is fine with me.
but with as much as the original has been talked about coming to bd with this new movie it needs to be one or the other.
if Disney blows the original off coming out on bd with this new movie a lot of people are going to be super pissed, but it honestly wouldn't surprise me if they just decided not to release it at all.
4 years+ in to bd and they have not released ONE live action classic yet.
so disappointing.

I wouldn't worry too much..."Tron" easily ranks as one of the most 'visually impressive' films ever made...there's no way they'd pass up on bringing it to Hi-def...it'll be out on Blu about the time the new movie comes out

I watched the HD version a few months ago on HD Net. My provider is AT&T HD better known as Mosaic HD(). Still looked pretty good. Also heard Disney is remaking The Black Hole. Hopefully the original of that one will get released as well. Disney had some great cheese back in the late70's/early80's.

When they do the remake, the ship needs to get stretched and pulled towards the singularity for all eterinity--you know, like how it works in a REAL black hole.

Yikes. My 20th Anni TRON DVD is one of the half-dozen DVDs I refuse to get rid of. I want to see what they offer when the blu makes it out of the gate.

would it be possible to have the SpaceParanoids(Online) game included on the BD as a Java game? Just wondering how far the BD capacity goes in this way. I'd love to be able to play it on my PS3 via the BD, rather than on the PC.

I don't see why not, it's only 26 megs. Controls might be a little clunky with a remote though. I have a small arcade in my garage. I've been considering building a cabinet for this game and the Starfighter game from The Last Starfighter. Never played this one, but Starfighter is pretty fun. I think both would be nice conversation pieces.

i was referring to this: http://www.spaceparanoidsonline.com/
Not sure if its the same as the arcade game you show? I'd expect the new one to probably be a lot better?

At last year's D23 Expo they had a screening of a "brand new HD restoration" of TRON, so Disney has already done their prep work for an HD release. Disney's home video strategy with sequels has usually been to re-release the original film close to the new theatrical release (they released a 2-disc National Treasure before the sequel came out and most recently brought the first two Toy Story films to Blu-Ray before the third hit theaters), however with 4 months left before the release of TRON Legacy and not even a peep from Disney about a release, I'm guessing that they are waiting for the home video release of Legacy to release the original on Blu-Ray.

I wonder if The Powers That Be at Disney are afraid that a big re-release of Tron on DVD/BD prior to Tron Legacy might actually cause people to shy away from the theaters... thinking the new film will be cheezy/80s?

Stupid, I know. But that may be the thinking.

Otherwise, I can't think of a single reason to not put it out prior to Legacy. Especially since even the trailers seem to show this to be a very direct sequel. Having the original available in advance would seem to be logical.

Or maybe most people will think this: "The first Tron was so stunning and advanced for it's time... just, imagine how great the sequel is going to look/feel with today's technology!"

Recently HDNet started running an updated Tron transfer, supposedly the one they're going to use for the Blu version. It looked much improved over the previous version they ran.

Most people are not that forward thinking. I have to agree that some people who have never seen the film might view it and then lose any interest they might have had in seeing the sequel.

I however I tired of waiting for this movie to come out on blu. BRING IT ON ALREADY!

That's two of us...I could care less about "Tron: Legacy," just like I could care less about every other remake and/or sequel that comes out some 20+ years after the original...

New update from TronSector.com. Bruce Boxeitner confirmed the film's release to the format (but gave no date), claiming there is 20mins of never-before-seen footage being included with the blu.
