That's what I thought. I checked to see if this had been accidentally copied over from an older review but that sentence appears nowhere else on this site.

That Optimum BD was terrible. The contrast was headache inducing. I got rid years ago for the Scream release. This does need a new UK release though for those who are yet to go region free.

Yup, I'd buy a decent region B release like a shot.

True.

If it was known that Optimum/Studiocanal were simply releasing that exact same disc then there's nothing to to stop BR.com comparing the existing Optimum disc with the SF disc as they have stated they intend to.

It seems BR.com know something, or at least think they know something that we don't.

SC did manage to port over the extra features from SF's They Live, but using their own existing master. If that's the case here, I just pray that they get their hands on the additional commentary, but most of all, that there is something they can do (or not do) with the master that could redeem the awful, worse than their own DVD, existing blu ray.

So admin moved my thread about the presumed new European release into the North American whishlist board (?????????????) , and taken out the part about their forthcoming review of this presumed release seen in the review for the latest SF steelbook.

Would be nice to see Arrow to take a crack at making the Fog look good.

The rumours of StudioCanal giving this a 4K restoration appear to be true. I imagine we'll see new releases of this and They Live over here before the end of the year.

I don't have any kind of trust (what so ever) when it comes to StudioCanal's "efforts" to produce the best possible quality scan, even if it's from the ocn. They have messed up so many releases in the past that I honestly can't see nothing but trouble on the way. I hope I'm wrong, I really do.

Edit. All I give a sh!t about is the Blu-ray. Couldn't care less about the uhd.

Brighton Rock, Dunkirk, Ice Cold in Alex (2011 release), and Ran all look fine to me.

StudioCanal have done some nice work, but their encoders have dropped the ball on far too many prestige titles.

Fantastic news on The Fog, but I'm a bit worried that a UHD BD release will lead to a half-arsed Blu-ray. Even the majors are halfheartedly encoded BDs these days and some cynics think their been hobbled to make the newer format look even better.

Thank goodness for the smaller labels giving it their all!

I thought 'Mulholland Drive' looked good, the Agatha Christie films and the recent Hammer releases were good as well

God, another edition of They Live? Or you reckon that will be UHD?

In for The Fog though, assuming they do a Blu-ray edition. Almost bought the old disc a few times but something was stopping me. Hoping they do Prince of Darkness eventually, and a new edition of Escape from New York too...

Being an SD upscale might have had something to do with it.

Hopefully SC realise after Mulholand Drive that it's worth getting David to encode their prestige releases....

Aparently an Australian DVD site has rereleases on halloween(Oct 31) for The Fog, Escape from New York and Prince of Darkness. They are being distributed by Universal Sony Home Entertainment Australia who have released a bunch of Studio Canal titles recently. I believe that these will be new discs and will be released in the uk around the same time, this is unconfirmed though. Here is a link to them.

They should be released in the uk. Im predicting they'll be part of Studio Canals "Classics Remastered" range they have in Australia as Studio Canal and USHE have released quite a few studio canal titles for the last year or so

It would be nice to have a watchable Blu-ray of The Fog.

The Fog would a welcome upgrade. Wish they would revisit Escape From New York rather than They Live as that one more in need of TLC.
