The only way if paramount and Dreamworks is going for limited time exclusivity for HD-DUD is to keep them alive and fighting around.

HD-DVD is already dead no one even toshiba or Microsoft wanna believe it.

There is only one solution we have lost too much money lets fight till the end

Game called "fighting till death"

The AP news item is unclear whether Paramount has gone HD-DVD exclusive. But combined with the blog entry, it looks like it is.

The game is in its extra innings, thanks to Microsoft money.

Wait, is this a permanent (as in, as far as we can foretell) deal? Or a temporary one? If it IS temporary, how long is it for?
And I STILL don't see why getting a lot of money up-front to support the inferior format is a good choice! Support the format that will make you more in the long run!

Its just more bad news after another lately! All these delays, misprinting in ads, confusion from users, fud to the extreme, websites dedicated to bashing Blu-ray, and now this!

Well, our site is now reporting Paramount has gone 100% HD DVD exclusive.

Wow, what *****s!

War changed today. Fox?

Sorry, this changes EVERYTHING. The war can't end now for years and years.

The yahoo article makes it sound af it's total exclusivity. I hope not, or this battle may drag on interminably I'm afraid.

you know, it might be better for us all to see the sale over the holiday season.
I don't mind losing, as the link said, 3 or 4 dreamworks animation titles.

So what does this mean?

All Paramount movies announced for Blu-ray will get cancelled?

All I can say is Yahoo News has been wrong before, not the best news source.
But it is still not good news.
I can not afford another HD set-up and I do not want to buy M$ supported B$!
This just got way to heated! Paramount is making a HUGE mistake! Does anyone have their email?

Very likely.

Probably why the Jack Ryan collection was delayed.

Start cancelling those Paramount orders. This does appear to be true, and the only thing that would have made it possible was a pay-off from MS and Toshiba.

Things seemed fishy when Blades of Glory received a second disc. VERY bad news indeed.

I heard that they will still release the titles they announced.. but I don't know.
I also hear this is "limited". So what the hell does THAT mean?

This is pretty ****ing terrible news if true, and the AP news makes it looks like it's all exclusive...$150m is all it took? Shit, BDA, you could do that easy.

Still crossing my fingers that AP isn't telling the whole story.

Which is what Microsoft wants. Apparently Katzenberg agrees with that.

Quote:
The HD/DreamWorks Animation deal is especially interesting because earlier this year, Jeff Katzenberg told a Bank of America conference that he expected "neither" high-def DVD format to win the war "because they're not going to become the next platform."
Microsoft is the prime funder. Warner is the seconder.

It will be interesting to see what Paramount and DA are going to headline this winter. Lionsgate, Disney and Sony are cocked and ready. Fox has to come up with the goods. The gameplan has changed for them and they can't do a "We're still here" announcement that Penton said they were going to do.

I have a feeling that a) the rant thread is going to be very busy, and b) the HD-DVD supporters finally realized that they have a Microsoft-backed format.

Yep. Fox must announce SOMETHING this week, or it really will be a massive turn around for HD DVD.

I apologize for the nervous nellie crack. Things are really bad now.

Really, I can't see how as an HD enthusiast I can resist getting an HD DVD player if this all turns out to be true.

One could also view this as the HD DVD camp tried to get Disney and Fox to go neutral, but that didn't work. So, naturally, they moved to the next logical place...get Paramount to go HD DVD exclusive.

I don't want to start rumors, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least to see Warner Bros. wind up HD DVD exclusive in the near future too. Then you essentially have:
Universal/Warner/Paramount up against Sony/Disney/Fox.

That would ensure in the longer term that either both formats survive or both formats fail.

Hollywood screwed HD optical up BIG TIME. I hope both formats don't die out as a result...
