Although the back cover says Region B, this played fine in my Samsung.

I just saw this over at the shop and jumped on here to report but you beat me to it! Man, I nearly knocked everything off the shelf when I read that cover. So does this mean Arthur C Clarke is one of Foster's pen names!?- What a revelation - this changes everything! ;D

Quick aside, I read that Foster novelisation long before I finally got to see the film. In my mind I designed something that looked like a cross between Space Odyssey, Silent Running and all those incredible Ron Cobb sketches from the Book of Alien.
Not surprisingly when I finally did see the movie I was a little disappointed!

This is why I ordered both this and the US blu-ray.

Wanted the total package in terms of bonus features. The US got the commentary track and the interviews while the UK gets much better PQ and the theatrical trailer.

A win-win for me.

I just finished watching this and the disc itself was really noisy. Maybe compressing two cuts of the film is what did it. It was really distracting, because the film's soundtrack is hardly what you would call aggressive in the first place.
