The dads are out in force again.

My favourite guitarist was Johnny Ramone - he was far from technically skilled but he changed my life.

Perhaps the "Dad's" had the added benefit of seeing more than just the current crop of guitar wizards.

I'll another one to the list that should have been there to begin with, and his name is:

Chet Atkins

And yet you pick a guitarist who is old school. I love the Ramones though. Lucky enough to see them twice.

Default All great choices but definitely missing. . .

Frank Marino. Easily forgotten by some and never really discovered by others. I personally remember his band Mahogany Rush from the 70's. Although l never remember listening to their music back then. He actually was the final act at the California Jam II in 1978, following Aerosmith's set.

I just recently rediscovered his music and am just completely at a loss as too how I missed out on his music back then. He released his first album at age 17 with his band Mahogany Rush in 1972.

If you've never heard him play, you are truly missing out on one of the best rock guitarists you ever have the pleasure of listing to. And being Mahogany Rush was only a 3 piece band, whew!

So will the iPod generation ever have any bonafide guitar heroes?

I know a lot of dads post here, hence why the lists above are usually from 70s/80s... but thinking about modern bands and how iconic their shredders are... there aren't many that I'd imagine will be reverred so highly in 10-20 years time I don't think.

I booked Frank for a few dances we held monthly while I was growing up in Montreal. Even at 16/17 then he was spectacular!

That reminds me.... (since you listed Zappa)

Prince often gets overlooked because he's..... well.... A freak.... And despite the fact that I'm not a huge Prince fan, the guy is an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G guitar player.

Van Halen
Kurt Cobain (Nirvana)
Jack White (White Stripes, Raconteurs, Dead Weather)
Nick Zinner (The Yeah Yeah Yeahs)
