Operation Petticoat and Father Goose are also wonderful movies. Tony Curtis is hilarious in petticoat. Hopefully we will get a boxset.
Arsenic and Old Lace also appears on my top 10 movie list off all time, not just Grant flicks. What a twisted comedic classic. I hope they give this a Blu soon and doesn't get the Archive treatment. I have a few DVD's left after I converted to Blu and this is one of them. It's the old Warner Snapper case version.

I really hope Operation Petticoat. I wonder why Universal has never released it properly on dvd (did they lose the rights, maybe?). My dream would be a set including all three Tony Curtis/Blake Edwards movies fro Universal (Mr Cory/The Perfect Furlough and Petticoat).

Olive has the rights to Operation Petticoat it is a Republic Picture and was previously released on DVD by Artisan. So far Olive has released Indiscreet, and have announced Father Goose, and The Grass is Greener, so I'm expecting they will also release Operation Petticoat.

It was never a Republic Picture. Republic released it on video but was originally distributed by Universal (it is available from Universal in the UK). I checked out and it belongs to Granart, Grant's production company, which explains to an extent why it's never had a decent release in the US. Regardless, glad to know it's in Olive's hands and hopefully we won't have to wait too long.

Yes Universal international, but US distribution rights belong to Republic Pictures, which has licensed it to Olive. I should have been more clear. I agree I hope we won't have to wait too long.

That is awesome news!

I picked up Father Goose. Restoration is gorgeous. As far as I am concerned, Olive can keep em coming. I would love to see a fully restored version of The Amazing Adventure. It's been in public domain for so long that there are mostly poor quality copies floating around on DVD.

Might as well put in my list of the next 5 of Cary's films I would like on Blu-Ray
1 Walk Don't Run
2 Amazing Adventure
3 Gunga Din
4 My Favorite Wife
5 The Talk of the Town

I never see these two mentioned:

People Will Talk
None But the Lonely

Both are excellent, with the 1st being one of my all time favorites.

Also eagerly awaiting Mr. Blanding's too.

So far, I own...

Notorious
To Catch a Thief
North by Northwest
Charade

These are all flawless five-star movies across the board.

Cary Grant had style. His suits in North by Northwest are awesome. It's sad that people do not have style like that anymore. Suits, a good hat, and the whole nine yards. Everything is too casual these days, so you have to watch a movie like North by Northwest to understand how it really should be done.

I'm guessing you are at least 40 (I'm 44). If I'm wrong and you're younger then great (though I'll be surprised). I was raised on these movies and couldn't agree more. I'm afraid however that the People of Wal-Mart fashion statement is becoming much more common. There are no social norms to dictate what is in good taste.

Imagine, not only did people used to wear suits in business, they wore sport coats or jackets when doing manual labor also.

I wish we could get a Box set or something.
Cary grant is one of the very few actors (along with Rock Hudson),that I would like to own every single film he was in, in Bluray.

Up until now I've seen 57 out of 72 films he's done.

I just wish most of the releases that are out there already, weren't released by Olive, because they don't include English subtitles!

I'm 41. I'm certainly not the most stylish dresser in the world, but I try.

When I watch old movies or even look back at old real-life photographs, though, I am always impressed at the style that people had many decades ago. Even the poverty-stricken people from the first half of the 20th century looked cool and well-dressed. My grandparents had modest incomes, at best, and never had a lot of money in their lives, but they still wore hats with their suits, they still had the small pouch containers for their coin change, and they dressed in button shirts even when working out in the fields.

  • The Last Outpost
  • The Amazing Adventure
  • My Favorite Wife
  • The Talk of the Town
  • None But the Lonely Heart
  • Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House
  • Crisis
  • I Was a Male War Bride

Totally agree. I'm a little older than you, but I remember you didn't go downtown to go shopping or dinner or the movies unless you wore a suit with a tie (and sometimes a hat). Back then, my old man used to refer to it as putting on the monkeysuit . It actually made you feel like it was something special to get dressed up to go somewhere. Those days are long gone, but I still like to reminisce by watching some of these older movies. In a way, I feel sad for younger folks because they never lived through those times or have an appreciation for tradition. Okay, it's official, I'm really starting to sound like an old fart.

Just saw that Olive Films is releasing Operation Petticoat next year!

There are a few of Cary's old films from the 30's I would love to see remastered too. Gambling Ship, Amazing Adventure, Wings in the Dark, etc....
