Arrow Cary Grant on Blu-ray

Cary Grant was one of the great classic actors

There are 3 Cary Grant films on blu right?

I've got the following:

North By Northwest (Warner Bros. digibook)
Charade (Criterion)
An Affair To Remember (Fox digibook)

are there any other?

Some others that would be also great on blu:

The Philadelphia Story
Notorious
His Girl Friday (public domain)
Gunga Din
Arsenic and Old Lace
To Catch A Thief
Topper
Bringing Up Baby
Operation Petticoat
Father Goose
Penny Serenade (public domain)
Suspicion

that's right--3 so far.
I definitely thought Warner would have released "The Philadelphia Story" on bd already.
my biggest disappointment with Warner--although they have overall been great--has been the overall lack of 30's classics.
I mean they have all the Astaire/Rogers stuff and all the Cary Grant films that you mentioned.
plus all the early Cagney gangster stuff.
I am shocked they have not released any Cagney yet.
I really hope we see this stuff sooner rather than later.
To Catch A Thief is Paramount, so looks bleak at present.
His Girl Friday is Columbia (Sony Capra boxset on dvd)
Operation Petticoat and Father Goose are also not controlled by Warner, and would need new transfers because they are wretched on US dvd.
Notorious is Fox/MGM/Disney (?) (someone said Disney controls these Hitchcock films)
imo the best bets for more Cary in the near future are probably either "Bringing Up Baby" or "Philadelphia Story". maybe "Gunga Din". maybe "Suspicion"--Warner Hitchcock.
other than these, I just can't see any others coming anytime soon.
UNLESS Sony does a complete 180 concerning Columbia, and at present it doesn't look good.

I have those three as well..... and that's all there is currently, but you're correct, he has a nice resume to bring to Blu-ray.

Totally agree, I have a wealth of classic films on DVD I'd love to upgrade to Blu. Regarding Cary Grant, I'd also add Hitchcock's Suspicion to your list. I'm glad to see a good deal of Humphrey Bogart classics on Blu already, but I'm still waiting on some great James Cagney films (The Public Enemy, White Heat, The Roaring Twenties, Yankee Doodle Dandy, etc.) I'll take some Edward G. Robinson while I'm at it (Smart Money, Little Caesar, Bullets or Ballots, etc.) I'd also love to see some classic film noirs debut on Blu, like The Asphalt Jungle, Heroes for Sale, Hot Saturday (another with Cary Grant), The Big Sleep, High Sierra, Murder My Sweet...

...you get the idea.

I watched Penny Serenade earlier this week via Netflix streaming through my PS3. Holy christ did it look awful. But I stuck with it because, as much as I like Cary Grant I have a thing for Irene Dunne. Speaking of crushes from the 30s, it'd be nice to see some Myrna Loy or Louise Brooks on Blu-ray.

you want to see the best version of Penny Serenade?
this one is the best I have come across.--
http://www.amazon.com/His-Girl-Frida...055403&sr=1-48
for a PD 3-strip it is very impressive.
strangely enough, I have been watching Love Affair over the past few days from the Alpha version.
the PQ is pretty poor, but the sound is fantastic!
I've been wanting to see that film for so long; don't know how many copies you have tried, but man that is one hard film to find a decent version of.
I don't think there is even an official vhs copy of it.
(at least I can't find one so far)
I had ordered a copy from Marengo--they are usually very good as far as PD goes--but with Love Affair the sound was unlistenable.
I'm so happy I can finally understand all the dialogue on the Alpha copy.

I've heard some public domain copies of Love Affair replaced the old soundtrack w/ a new one. Never seen the film so I can't comment.

hmmmm......I don't know enough about it, but I'm just referring to the spoken dialogue. there could be different music and I wouldn't even know.
I just know that this Alpha copy has very clear dialogue, whereupon I can now here Boyer's voice much more clearly.
His accent can make him difficult to understand with good audio, so you can imagine what it is like with poor audio.
I was astounded at how poor the Marengo dvd sounded because the PQ is actually better than the Alpha.
If I could merge the two versions, it would result in a pretty dang good copy of the film imo.
I've been buying a number of inexpensive PD titles lately looking for decent versions of some classic films that I have wanted to see forever.
I've had good luck for the most part, and have gotten quite watchable dvds of about 6 films I had never seen before.
none of them have official dvds.

Thinking of Myrna Loy I'd also love to see some Thin Man movies. She was great with William Powell. Also Libeled Lady with both of them. That fly-fishing scene is worth it alone. As well as all the one's mentioned I'd love to see Dinner at Eight but I imagine it wouldn't be in great shape.

I am a HUGE Cary Grant fan. To me, no movie star ever could or would light up the screen like Cary. I have Blu-Ray, DVD, or DIVX copies of every Cary Grant film. Around 40 of them on DVD alone....there are a few I would kill to get on Blu-Ray....
  • Walk Don't Run (1966) - His last performance was incredible. He made it look so easy and I still crack up every time I watch him making coffee with the percolator!
  • Father Goose (1964) - Easily one of my favorite Grant films!
  • I Was a Male War Bride (1949) - "You can't sleep here!"
  • Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948) - I went through a phase in college where I checked out tons of movies in a similar genre from the library. This was the first of Cary's films I watched after seeing North By Northwest, which is still my all time favorite movie ever. Mr. Blandings, however, instantly sold me on Cary Grant's star power.
  • None But The Lonely Heart (1944) - I already pounced on this one when Warner Archives released the remastered DVD....I will pounce again if it ever hits BD.
  • Suspicion (1941) - I feel this is a very underrated performance. Plus it's Hitchcock, so.....
  • My Favorite Wife (1940) - I just want to see Irene Dunne in high def!
  • Gunga Din (1939) - This one would be lush black and white goodness on BD
  • The Last Outpost (1935) - This one is so fun. Poor Claude Rains always loses the girl to Cary!
