Having seen the movie I can say it was better then I expected and didn't deserve to flop so badly. It definutely ain't Pixar quality. Some of the characters can be annoying and some of the movies plot doesn't make much sense. The whole interspecies romance was more then alittle creepy. Still I probably liked this better then many Dreamworks animated movies. And as I said before the movie puts importance on traditional family and in a culture that is increasingly at war with the traditional family this is a welcome breath of fresh air.

+1

I have seen far worse movies than this. Although not the best movie but still not as bad a some are saying.

Eisner practically killed the studio with all the crappy DTV sequels to their movies...I'm glad, for the most part, those have stopped.
Don't you love the blind spot some have over Disney sometimes?

"everything they release these days is crap, not like the old days", sure cause back 40 years ago Disney did not release subpar movies and never silly stuff, things like The Black Hole, Herbie The Love Bug, Blackbeard's Ghost just to name a few true cinematic gems

Time seem to make people believe that it was always better "in the old days", forgetting that some of the things we look as classic today were looked upon as trash by those living it back then. Human nature I suppose?

Definitely haha. I mean, don't get me wrong, the output back then may have been a bit better. But Disney has made it's fair share of subpar movies since the beginning. Not everything they do is a gem. But you know what, even when it's not a gem, it still has some small sort of Disney magic.

All we do is perserve the gems of the old.

The Silent film era was chocked full of worthless crap because the films were so short and the market was so saturated, in fact 80% of movies were "lost". They have a few gems like Sunrise, The Cheat or Birth of a Nation for example.

+1 I agree. If at all possible, that would be the best environment.

My daughter and I watched this movie. I thought it above average and my daughter found in so-so.

Some of the effects were really well done, but the dialog was predictable, the plot uneven, and the lead characters were for the most part not very likable.

This movie fails in the same way in which many recent Disney films. The story was weak, and the creators got distracted by visuals and lost track of what story there was. A very large amount of money and effort was wasted on eye candy that did not advance the plot.

Like many other recent Disney films, I think people are reading too much into the movie as far as politics. The points ofnthe movie to me are fairly generally:
1) Facism is bad.
2) Human interaction is more important than technology
3) Children who be raised by people who love them.

With a film title like that, I surprised it's flopped.

I haven't seen it but given the poor marketing it shows that Disney had no faith in this film and judging from the trailer and horrible title i can see why.

The thing is, this film is going to flop harder over seas basicly because of it's name. We say Mum not Moms, that's an instant turn off for at least a UK audience.

Oh, thought it was going to be for the same reasons Monsters vs. Aliens flopped overseas, namely, Euro audiences aren't as iconically into sci-fi parodies...

I wonder if that's why Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot did so poorly.

That's very much what I was thinking and when the UK is one of Disney major markets, it doesn't look good.

I still can't work out why anyone thought 'Mars Needs Moms' sounded like a good title and I can't help but think that was the turn-off for the film, rather than the plot, because it sounds so cheap and instantly says "bad movie". If it had been something different it probably wouldn't have been as big a flop.

BECAUSE. IT. WAS. A. BOOK.

Not a particularly memorable big-expensive-picture-book at Barnes & Noble, and the movie, traditionally, bears not the slightest perceptible resemblance to the plot, design or theme of it past the title.
But, like "Polar Express", "Shrek", "Cloudy/Meatballs", "Night at the Museum", "Ant Bully", "Horton Hears a Who", "The Lorax", etc., as long as it has the same title as the book that's on the overpriced-picture-book shelf at Barnes & Noble, this immediately validates it with parents as a mushy and responsible movie to take your young ones to.

And who knows, maybe in another twenty years, some animation-studio executive will actually READ it past the marketable sounding title.
