For me, for soundtrack preferences, I think mine has to do with nostalgia. I remember recording Legend off TBS on our VCR when I was kid, and of course it had the Tangerine Dream soundtrack. That's the version I grew up with, so I think naturally I prefer it.
Especially this track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8mre...eature=related Plus, I do think movies like this benefit from a more "fantasy" score. I also enjoyed the soundtrack (themes) to The Neverending Story. |

And after having grown up with one soundtrack over the other, I think it's ultimately just a matter of personal taste in music. I have always loved Goldsmith, and I'm a film score nut (having probably 100 movie scores in my collection from my fav composers) so it was a treat to have his score put back in and I came to love it easily. Ridley Scott was "playing" with the genre (and a few attempts at copycatting "Dark Crystal", when he first thought of hiring Brian Froud to design the creature effects), and the result was pretty much the kind of fantasy you get from a first-time poseur: Pile one of every variety of classic fantasy creatures in the same forest, and have our hero disjointedly wander from one encounter to the next like a shopping list, until he finally gets to the videogame boss-baddie by using his One Sword. Jerry Goldsmith's was too generic, but belonged with a "real" environment, TD's was a slick 80's imitation for a slick 80's imitation. To avoid the appearance of thread-crapping however, I will just say: Oona = ![]() |
