MCV: PS3 Price Drop Coming in August (Gamescom) ?

My thing is...bestbuy employee told me if it drops within 30 days of my receipt i get the money back....but if its after 30 days you think its a good idea to return it and then rebuy it when the price drop happens? I would lose my game saves if i played uncharted before then tho wouldnt i??

And it does kinda suck that it says the fan noise will be louder...why would they do that? Now im kinda thinking i shouldve got a earlier ps3 slim or a xbox 250gb slim until the ps3 dropped in price How would best buy react if i bring the ps3 back and say i want to return it for what reason would i say if i had to? lol sorry i just havent had a system since ps2 and i never worried about fan noise or price drops back then....and as you describe i have the new slim...its the black instead of chrome and just the hdmi...

If it's after 30 days, you won't be able to return/exchange/get a price adjustment.

Who says the fan noise is gonna be louder? and why would it? I think I've read it will have slightly bigger fan in it but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be loud. If it's gonna be louder then I'm definitely gonna pick up one of the current slim's before they are all gone. My slim was pretty much silent.

Speculation.

It would simply tend to indicate that the fan would need to turn faster to achieve the same amount of cooling.

This is not taking in account the following facts:

- Not all fans are equal. With various designs, it is possible to achieve quieter running while going faster, making up for smaller blades
- If your PS3 is in an open environment, it probably doesn't need that much cooling in the first place (open cabinet or table stand, or floor)
- Location of new fan and console interior design change impacting cooling

The only situation that will imply more noise is: No other design change to streamline cooling -and- PS3 in closed cabinet

So with everything being said....ive had the ps3 1 day and havent used it yet..if the price drop happens august 17th that would put me at 30 or 31 days...it would suck to land on 31 and not be able to get the adjustment...would you guys just take the ps3 back now..and wait for the drop to be safe? i would be keeping my games and blu-rays...just the system...

Man thus far I just don't like the changes Sony has done to this new slim model. The slim as is now is fine. They took the nice chrome finish off it AND they put a smaller fan in it! Why in the world would they put a smaller fan in? I should have listened to my wife and NOT sold my slim as now I've got to go ahead and hurry and pick up another one before this new revised version hits.

If you wanna be safe I would take it back. I don't even think Sony's press conference is until the 17th? If they announce then, if it's not immediately effective that day you will not be able to match it.

Yes the best buys in my area are sold out....one of the best buys got 6 of the revised ones and the employees dont even notice lol...

target had a black ops slim bundle...and a 160gb ps3 also. I never have purchased electronics from target...would anyone be against it?

Yep...they look identical to the slim thats been out but instead of shiny chrome..they have shiny black...everything else pretty much looks the same to me.

I personally think the earliest it'll drop is after TGS. Tales of Xillia PS3 bundle was announced awhile ago and it's 34,900 Yen IIRC.

Sony could just cut the price in NA/EU at Gamescom and then Japan at TGS. When Nintendo last cut the Wii's price, I believe it was only in NA/EU so Japan's due for one (which could also happen at TGS).

Target is great for electronics purchases. They have a 90 day return period as well.

I'm playing the "should I wait" game too. Looked @ walmart last night and there was not a single ps3 available for purchase??? I may go ahead and try to locate a black ops bundle locally and pull the trigger.
