Blade Runner was also a flop and there was a sequel eventually. Most people are dumb and clueless. That's never been an obstacle in making good content. |

I always thought John Carter's biggest problem was an uncharismatic star.

The main actor was terribly miscast, the art design for the space vehicles were horrible, Farscape, LEXX, and the new Dune display excellent insect craft design and to some degree Oblivion’s Helicopter veers into dragonfly territory stylistically but John Carter falls flat in that respect. The Human jumping on mars looked to much like wire work without realistic centers of gravity to where movement made him look like he was being lifted rather than him pushing off and pulling an early golden age Superman leap. He shouldn’t have been so pasty white, should have went grisly sun tanned. The human inhabitants of Mars should have been more ethnically distinctive and either more Alienish or otherworldly. I believe a remake in the right hands could go somewhere…although I don’t know the source material aside from the sucky film

I’ve read the books. They are nonstop wall to wall action. They tried to make too respectable a movie. Instead they should’ve made what the book demands, a balls to the walls b-level macho actioner with big muscles, tits, slaughter, bloodshed and explosions. I mean this is how most of the artwork is represented - ![]() |

![]() Id also argue that Blade Runner is a bad comparison since its a totally different kind of film than John Carter which was just another "one of those" movies. BR requires multiple viewings & a different mindset. Carter is just: check brain at door, watch pointless action on screen & then go home. Nothing wrong with that - I watch/own movies like that too. But its not the same thing at all, IMO. The first JC was barely watchable. Like - the minute it ended we instantly forgot about it and went onto other tasks. Thats why it bombed: It was uninspiring, formulaic and forgettable. If they try again.... good luck. LOL. |

The one tiny sliver of hope for a sequel is that if JC has done exceptionally well in the ancillary market (and I've seen no evidence of that), they might make a D+ series.
However, since JC came out, Di$ney has acquired Star Wars. There is zero reason to go back. |
