Because we don't all live in houses where we can start mounting stuff on our walls at will, or even have enough space to put the projector back far enough. Get over yourself.

Just watched this tonight. I thought there could be more 3D depth in a lot of scenes and it came across as flat (and I'm not talking about the 2D portions either.) That being said, what I did see was very stunning and the movie as a whole looks amazing in all it's HD glory, especially with the red/orange colors against the dark backgrounds.

I liked the movie, but I thought the 3D effects were lacking. Disappointing, compared to the Pirates of the Cari. preview |

Saw Sanctum 3D last night, had heard so-so reviews on what it was like, but was pleasantly surprised, the story is a bit forced but the 3D lifts the film.
I found the depth and overall dimensionality to be quite good, it made you feel like you were actually in the caves and that added a lot to the film, we aren't talking Sammy level's of 3Dness but it was pretty solid. It was a bit soft in terms of sharpness and overall the colour was not exceptional (I guess you can't compare Cameron's fusion camera system to the PQ you get on say an IMAX 3D camera), but it was still quite good. The actual story gets bogged down in melodrama and a few annoying characters, who sometimes make the sort of daft decisions that can only occur in films, but as the 3D had me engrossed I let it slide. All in all, it was better than I thought, I give it 6.5-7/10. |

rio - beautiful, clear, bright and sharp. could have used a few more pop outs. this needed to be in a ratio of 1:85. enough of these 3d movies in 2:35. id be interested to see one of these movies in 2:35 that has pop outs extending into the black bars. anyone?

The previews for PotC 3D looked much better than I remember the actual movie being when I saw it during it's theatrical run. Granted I was on a Disney cruise in the Caribbean at the time (so saw both 2D & 3D versions for free, well, if you don't count the cost of the cruise!), so their 3D setup may not have been the best. And we just watched the 2D version on the old projector about a month before I got my 3D projector, so it may be awhile until I'm ready to watch it again. At least that'll give me something to look forward to watching in the future.

Saw Hubble 3D tonight, had to import it from the States but it was worth it, just a gorgeous picture and beautiful 3D.
Loved the fly-thru of the nebula and the peer into the deep field of the universe, actually would have liked even more of that, because I find stuff like that fascinating. There were also some gorgeous shots of the shuttle Atlantis launching, you just can't beat a 65mm IMAX camera for making shots like that just dazzling, it just has a certain texture that digital cameras don't emulate yet. Downside was it was a bit on the short side, and some shots were less interesting (2D news footage etc) and if you are not a space buff you might find it a bit slow in areas but for me it held my interest the whole way, but all in all a great doco, Leonardo DiCaprio was well suited as a narrator. All in all, I give it 8.5/10, well worth the $20. |
