I don't need a Robot head. I learned my lesson with the ugly Gollum statue from the Two Towers extended DVD set that now sits alone in my basement storage room.

I will get this when it hits 3D Blu-ray. I heard this was coming a few months ago so when it was on FX recently I told my friends we should wait (cause I just bought my 3DTV). One of then even said 'I always thought this would have been good in 3D'. So we'll see how it looks.

I don't think they were giving it out then -- the screen said "Release date: TBD" at the convention.

They had a few on display and overall it just looked really disappointing, one of those things that (even as a fan of these items) I'd quickly go with the regular release over, even at a much more reasonable price.

The previously released 'i robot' head looked MUCH better: http://www.skullface.com/review34.html

i too have the previous head from the JP DVD release. Got it a couple years back on eBay. 100 bucks is WAY worth it, for anyone still on the fence. It's one of my favorite displays I have!

Really?

hmm - I saw it at comic con and it just looked very underwhelming. I didn't spend much time looking at it, but it did look different from the other one. Maybe it is the same one though.

I will wait for the regular packaged 3D BD release. I love the character of Sonny, but I am not that thrilled about having his bust on my display shelf.

Now had it been Will Smith's life sized bust, that would have been the best head I have every gotten. I like the idea of getting full head instead of just the mask packaging like the ones made for the Predator Trilogy, one of the Harry Potter movies, Terminator Salvation, Batman, Ironman, and two different mask BD cases for The Watchmen. Walmart even had exclusive mask cases for the DVD release of Transformers (I have the Bumblebee mask DVD case).

Not to thread jack, but I would have loved head BD cases like the Sonny I Robot head for ALL of the Universal Monsters blu-ray movies that are coming out later this year.

Default 40 bucks? Hmm... I'll pass if it cost that much

Just saw where they are going to sell it for 40 bucks. That's a bit too much for me. I was thinking around 25 bucks is more like it.

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/I-Rob...Blu-ray/43016/

If I was going to spend 40 bucks on a 3D blu, I'd go ahead and buy the 3d with the plastic head edition for 90 bucks (w/10% off).

Amazon is notorious for doing this with their newly listed movies. Wait a bit until they have a decent price to match from one of their competitors

What you are looking at is the MSRP I'm assuming and is just basically an introductory price...doesn't mean anything

Exclamation

I registered after a google alert got me here

Just to clarify a bit on the quote below...
The tech demo I saw is of the JVC box that is an automated one (with a few parameters that can be tweaked). And this was not a demo of Irobot that I was shown.

However, I believe that in another discussion forum (possibly Linkedin) someone from JVC clarified that the tech/algorithms used for the movie conversion employ a workflow thats different from their automated rack-mount unit.

So I have reason to believe that they have used automated/semiautomated tech to *Assist* human decisions on depth grading. i.e.. long story short, the conversion just may be on par with traditional 2D to 3D conversion approaches.

At least this is what I'm hoping for!

Regards
Clyde

I preordered this on Amazon.com..being from UK it comes to $59..I will most probably cancel it if it doesnt come way down in price before release..My limit is £25-£29 when its a brand new blockbuster.

It looks nice for the cover, though I would've liked Smith with IRobot (forgot his name) just behind him over one shoulder, as he's also a main character. And put the lady in there too, on the other side, then try to fit in the rows of robots in between or behind. Otherwise, looks good.

Let's hope they follow through on offering it at a cheaper price. For an older title in 3D, starting price is $34.99. That's expensive, so hopefully it'll drop to 22.99 for many of us to consider it, as much as I enjoyed this movie.

Awesome cover! I have a feeling I might double dip on this even with the pre-order of the i, Robot head (which I kind of regret :/) -- I had no use for the TRON Disc other than the original TRON movie within it, pretty much going to do the same here.

I also have some collectibles and although they're neat, they're mainly just shelf decorations as they're intended to be, or in storage boxes.
I'm actually surprised they released the IRobot face. I'm wondering if they're planning to make a sequel to IRobot?

Yeah... But I kind of wished they would give you the box cover + the Bluray case with it so I have the display and the movies with my other blurays. Oh well.

Does anyone else find it weird that FoxConnect doesn't seem to be sold out of the iRobot head? I thought there were only supposed to be 250 made.

I wonder how many they sold? If more than 250, maybe after 250 they stopped numbering them. Or changed their mind if they sold more than anticipated.

250 increases the value of the item. More than 250 decreases it unless it was specially numbered as 1/250 etc.

I will have to see a 3D preview before I buy this one at full price.

I just wish they'd be upfront about it. Also, it would be kind of lame for the buyers at ComicCon to be told they were buying one of 250, just to discover more identical un-numbered sets were made.

Are you sure about the number being present on the gift they are presenting? They might say just 250 only to make everyone queue up to the have it. Even if they provide more of the duplicate ones who would know?
