![]() Well, you definitely need to start it with the very first episode. I've seen the entire seven seasons 3 times nowand could easily do so again Last edited by bluskies; 02-08-2013 at 05:53 PM. |

I'm watching it now. I've seen the first two seasons so far.. I like it, it's got some fantastic episodes here and there. For some reason I don't tend to stick with it though...watch an episode here and there and then don't for a week or two. I know it's off-topic, but do you have any particular favorite episodes?

Favorite episodes: The pilot, especially when President Bartlet makes his appearance near the end and tells off that female religious talkshow host. "Let Barlet Be Bartlet" "In the Shadow of Two Gunmen" 2-parter -Janel Moloney is wonderful throughout the series as Donna, but in the moment when she hears about Josh is particularly amazing to watch. "The Midterms" - this is the one where President Bartlet skewers a rightwing radio show host, based on Dr. Laura, and ends with ""One last thing. While you may be mistaking this for your monthly meeting of the ignorant tight-ass club, in this building when the President stands, nobody sits." "In This White House" - the one where the White House hires a smart, female Republican lawyer...who crushed Sam in a TV debate **** There are many more episodes. Oftentimes, it can be an interplay between the characters... ...like when the reporter buys C.J. a goldfish because Josh told him she realy likes Goldfish...not realizing it was the crackers... ...the walk and talks... ...C.J. telling Josh what she would do with a keyboard if he dared go online to his fans' website again... ...the relationship between Josh and Donna... ...and other things I don't want to spoil. |

Those are excellent choices based on what I've seen....I'd add that another one of my favorites (or even my very favorite up to now) so far was 'Noel' (great episode). I'm not spoiled about anything really (except that for some reason I keep reading the last 3 seasons don't get much love from fans)...so I like that I can still be surprised by another great moment waiting at any turn....

The episodes and character development really do play into each other, though. If you watch "Noel" without the context, it won't have much meaning.
There are a few kludgy episodes in the first half of the first season, but it really takes off from there. |

[Show spoiler] I hated Sorkin's Sports Night (repetitive overly clever dialogue, strong-willed female Producer turned into a 15-year-old in personal life...), but loved West Wing, so blind-buy Newsroom is onto the Wishlist! And don't fret about your watching patterns - we all have lives. You should watch when you're interested. I'm just about to start the West Wing again myself... |

One of the other things that I found remarkable when I started my 3rd watching of the entire series was how much of what was written in 2000 is still completely relevant to today: Repubs threatening to shut the government down, treating the President with contempt, gun violence, religious zealots, and the House of Representatives under Repub control: C.J.: "Leo, we need to be investigated by someone who wants to kill us just to watch us die. We need someone perceived by the American people to be irresponsible, untrustworthy, partisan, ambitious and thirsty for the limelight. Am I crazy or is this not a job for the U.S. House of Representatives?" And look at this week's news about being able to kill an American who joined Al Qaeda and plotted to kill Americans. There was an episode where Bartlet had to decide about the assassination of a foreign national who was behind a terrorist plot against the U.S. Last edited by bluskies; 02-09-2013 at 01:27 AM. |

Canada, denouncing the Tea Party over the run of the series was truly great, and Will's end-of-the-10th episode's "American Taliban" commentary was indeed one of TV's finest moments.

I am debating, but will probably pass. I enjoyed it and will watch more if there is more... but some of it was just too stupid. Some of the characters got dumber as the season went on. Any plot outside of the politics surrounding the newsroom team and company were pretty abysmal.

HBO is doing the same thing they did with "Mildred Pierce," throwing in DVDs I don't want as a justification for their extortionate prices. Why can't they just offer the BD individually for maybe $10 more than the DVD.
The list prices are $60 for DVD and $80 for BD! I know, I know, almost nobody pays MSRP, but my point is that those high prices are the base from which the final price begins. A 10 episode TV series should not be $56 on BD on Amazon right now. It's insane. I can't see it ever getting much lower than $40-$45. "Mad Men" seasons routinely sell for $10 at holidays on Amazon and can usually be found for around $20. I find it hard to believe that The Newsroom costs THAT much more to produce. |
