Just finished the chat with support. Apparantly they are aware of the problem.
I was told the movie would be converted to HD at a later time, not sure how accurate that it though.
They also e-mailed me a coupon code however, no instructions on how to use it at all. Tried to enter it in the "redeem" box but that didn't work. Coupon code is apparantly for a specific title, but it doesn't tell me which one

By my quick count it appears there are currently 3,435 titles on the initial list. Not bad for a start.

Was it a rental only code? This is the response I got on a rental only code.

So it doesn't work on the title(s) you were having an issue with?

Thank you for using BestBuy CinemaNow.

Here is your coupon: XXXXXXX

To use the coupon, please visit BestBuy CinemaNow's web site. Next, choose a title and proceed to the shopping cart. In the shopping cart, enter the coupon into the “Redeem Gift or Coupon” section. Next press the “REDEEM” button. After the coupon has been redeemed, you should be taken to your library where you will see the title.

Because I've already purchased the movie, there is no longer an option to buy it again. PLAY and DOWNLOAD are the only options.
Tried it on a couple of others, but nothing.

Do those titles show up on UVVU.com as SD and HD? I see that both CinemaNow and Vudu don't have either of those titles available to own in HD. Which might be the reason why they only come across as SD.

I thought that as well. If that's the case then why offer them as HD when converting though?

True. On the positive side if they show up as SD and HD on UVVU.com when and if they are offered on CinemaNow and Vudu in HD then you'll automatically have access to the HD version. However, I understand not wanting to pay for HD when it's not currently available.

^ To add to my last post, I don't want to see CinemaNow get rid of the HD option if it doesn't have the HD available. In some cases, CinemaNow only has an SD version available but Vudu has an HD version available. Based on my trials purchasing the HD version still got me the HD version on Vudu even though CinemaNow doesn't have that option available on their site.

Since CinemaNow doesn't know what other UV merchants have available maybe they should just have a popup to inform the customer that the HD version is currently not available on CinemaNow but allow the customer to choose whether to continue or not with the purchase.

Even that would be better than charging for HD and THEN finding out you only get the SD version.

On another note, I just got this in my e-mail

That's why I always double check both sites to make sure it's currently available to own in HD. If neither site has it available in HD then I skip the title for right now.

That doesn't always work though. I converted 40 Year Old Virgin and Wizard of Oz and both are available as HD on both sites, but I only got SD when I paid for HD.

That's a different issue then with getting the correct encode for specific titles. In your case the process is clearly broken.

My statement had more to do with buying the HD encode and getting credited with a HD UV title on UVVU. Basically, you could get an HD UV license for a title but might not be able to play it in HD if the available movie services, or your preferred service, don't have the option available. That doesn't mean the process is broken since in that case you would have gotten exactly what you paid for, a HD UV license. It's just that the available movie services don't offer that option which are two different things.

I purchased the HD version of Dave. I only see the SD version on VUDU, Flixster, and UVVU. Since I don't have Intel Insider, they won't let me download it in HD.

The CinemaNow app on my iPad has a download link, but it crashes when I try the download. I sent a mail to the support folks.

i didn't see an answer to this question: will the cinemanow gift cards work as a form of payment? I see on ebay there is a seller who sells $50 in CN codes for $15. Getting that wouldn't be a bad way to do this upgrade on the cheap.

Yes, he's a great seller. When Cinemanow first got UV I bought some codes and sent him a message telling him he would probably be getting a lot more business now that they are UV and he sent me a couple free codes for referring him some business. I wish more ebay sellers were like him.

I hate to be this person, but I wonder how he gets these? Was Best Buy giving these out free w/ purchase or something? I just have no idea how he has so many and how he can sell them so cheap.

I guess if the codes work, then that's the important thing.
